Dear Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan You promised all London buses will have air conditioning. Summer has just started and London buses are again at dangerous temperatures. I’m a passenger on this bus and it’s 36 degrees in seating area upstairs and well over 40 in driving cabin .... I can hear a passenger saying she is going to pass out due to heat ….. Broken promises again

Neither driver was willing to back up, so both buses sat parked in the middle of the street, blocking cars for miles while everyone waited for a supervisor to show up. The standoff only got worse when a frustrated passenger confronted one of the drivers, leading to a heated shouting match on the sidewalk. Instead of correcting the situation, the drivers doubled down, refusing to move and leaving commuters stuck, angry, and late — all because two bus operators couldn’t settle a basic right-of-way dispute like adults.

Around 1,500 bus drivers working for Aviva North London have gone on strike over the hot weather. The strikes, planned by Unite the Union for 11 different occasions between now and mid-October, are urging Arriva to replace its air-cooling system with air conditioning. They walked out today as part of a strike which will continue into tomorrow. Wasim Mohammed, managing director of Arriva London, said on Friday that extreme heat was "creating challenges across many sectors, including London’s bus network" and that the wellbeing of staff and customers was the company's "top priority". He said additional support had been introduced for drivers and urged Unite to "come back to the negotiating table".

Most occasions this resolves itself on its own amicably. Bus drivers must prioritize the wheelchair user. Asking the parent to move the prame brings its own attention……
