Midnight’s controls are innovative and simple, using two side sticks to control altitude, speed, and direction during flight. Think of it like manual vs automatic in cars. Because Midnight is fly-by-wire, software translates the pilot's movements with the sticks to automatically transition between flight modes, smoothly speed up or slow down, and hold the aircraft's position, airspeed, and direction. This allows pilots to focus more on the flight, not the mechanics of commanding several different control surfaces all at once.

Baby iguanas can run up to 20 mph to escape predators, like snakes. They are also very good at climbing, which gives them another way to escape predators. This stunning video shows the epic battle between a baby iguana and hundreds of hungry snakes! Their long, slender bodies and strong legs help them to move quickly. They can also change their color to blend in with their surroundings, making it more difficult for predators to see them. If a predator does catch up to them, baby iguanas can shed their tails as a distraction. The tail will grow back eventually, but it gives the iguana time to escape. Baby iguanas are fascinating creatures that have evolved to survive in their environment. #babyiguanas #speed #predators #snakes #fascinatingcreatures #Facts 📹 BBC Earth

NASA took a major step toward redefining high-speed flight on Nov. 16, 2004. The X-43A, a small, experimental aircraft, proved that an engine drawing oxygen from the atmosphere could propel an aircraft to hypersonic speeds – greater than Mach 5, or five times the speed of sound. During the flight over the Pacific Ocean west of California, the X-43A set the world speed record for a jet-powered aircraft, reaching Mach 9.6, or nearly 7,000 mph. The mission originated from NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California. The X-43A flight showed future high-speed vehicles could have more airplane-like operations for increased affordability, flexibility, and safety. NASA sees such technology as a key to unlocking improved access to space and future routine flight across the world. Explore more about hypersonic research at NASA Armstrong:

This incredible display of Batesian mimicry features a Hawk-moth Caterpillar that has evolved to perfectly resemble a snake to deter predators. By tucking its actual head away and inflating its rear segments, it reveals large eye-spots that create a convincing illusion of a dangerous reptile. Predators are biologically wired to avoid snakes, so even a momentary hesitation allows this master of disguise to escape unharmed. It is a brilliant example of how nature uses specific patterns and body shapes to ensure survival through deception.

TRANSITION FLIGHT | Midnight has completed transition flight at a speed of 100+ MPH – taking off vertically, accelerating until it transitions from thrust-borne to wing-borne flight, cruising on the wing and then landing again vertically. Here are the key highlights from this milestone: ✈️ At ~6,500 lbs, Midnight is believed to be one of the largest eVTOL aircraft to complete transition, which is critical to being able to carry commercially viable passenger payloads 2️⃣ Archer has now achieved transition with two different full-scale eVTOL aircraft which is well known in the industry as a very difficult milestone few companies have reached 💨 Midnight’s flight test program will now continue its progress with plans to fly simulated commercial routes to demonstrate the aircraft’s operational readiness, executing high-rate flight operations, testing additional flight maneuvers that will be used in commercial settings along with continuing to expand its speed and endurance flight envelope Watch the full, uncut video of the flight here: Learn more here:
