@LewisHamilton I don't think they thought Lewis would catch up because the pace of the car was horrendous, and he was 4 cars back. I mean, they should've expected this when he qualifies lower he's always able to climb to the top 10 no matter the pace.

Jenson Button on George Russell qualifying performance🗣️ "Confidence after his first run. You can see he looks relaxed. He looks relaxed behind the wheel. There's no sudden movements on the steering. Everything's very gradual. Precision. Really, really impressive lap. He has. And you know, before qualifying, Kimi looked super quick. Kimi and George were both very, very close, even through the first part of qualifying. But when it really mattered, George was calm, collected, got it done. Just experience, feeling comfortable in himself to go and get the job done. Yeah, definitely. And it's a street circuit as well. So you need to build up to it a little bit. And I think that probably he took a little knock in FP2 with the incident he had. I think it probably surprised him because he just didn't expect it. George's Post-Race Interview🏁 "Well, I was more frustrated in the race situation. I don't understand how three drivers can cut the first corner and just continue in the position they entered. It's like allowing you to risk everything that you just have to get out of jail, free card, if you get it wrong. So, and then obviously Max and Lewis, when they came together, Lewis got the penalty, rightly so, but Max was off the track, came back on in the wrong place, wrong time for me, and I lost three positions. And obviously I was pretty frustrated, but it all stemmed from that one. Well, I think it holds me down to the circuit. If there is this get out of jail free card, if that was gravel, no one would be there. We've seen it almost every year we've been here. I think last year, Charles the year before, Lewis 10 years ago, it's like a lawnmower racing. So, I don't know, something needs to change there. As I said, if you can just send it down the outside, you can either make it stick, or you just cut the grass and you return in the position you were in before, that's not really how it should be." #F1 #MexicoGP

Jolyon Palmer answers the question 'Why didn't Leclerc get a penalty for not giving the position back to Lewis?' "It's a good question and I don't have the answer. So let's have a look with this reverse angle because I think it becomes more clear cut here that Hamilton should have that place, second position, because of the way here that Charles gives Hamilton the space, Verstappen is then going to have a squeeze. At the moment, Max is looking like he's going to have a clear launch down the outside. Remember, he's on a medium tyre, so it's a particularly decent start. But in the end, we get four wide. You've got the two Ferraris neck and neck. You've got Verstappen so ambitious out wide onto the kerb. It's the first race he's not led out of the out of the first corner since 2019 here. He's got astonishing form and as a result, a lot of confidence to go and attack this first corner. You can actually see Hamilton is marginally ahead of Charles Leclerc before the braking zone. So it's just a nose in front. But I would say the Ferrari on the left is ahead of the Ferrari on the right." "We come through the corner. So if we ignore Verstappen now, he's never going to make it stop from that outside line. We come through the corner and now Charles is in a real squeeze here. I felt the best in the car this weekend and I really feel like this small tweak we made into qualifying was just right and we're making tweaks as we're going through this session just with wing and Q3 run one felt good and I did a really good prep laps and then when I started my lap my SM wasn't on and I was down already like a tenth and a half or two tenths into turn one so that and then I had turn seven because I was trying to floor it back so you know but it's nice I think we probably could have fought for third I think that was the case yesterday as well but it means like a perfect lap out of our car and um but the good thing is that we're kind of we are improving and I really hope that I can take this sort of performance home for the season."
