Breaking down the Brendan Donovan Trade 🧵: SWP- Jurrangelo Cijntje (AA) Cijntje is a switch pitcher who is much more proficient from the right side than the left side, even to the point where Seattle wasn't going to use the left hand this season. From the right side he boasts a mid to high 90s fastball touching 98 with good movement, and then a mid 80s slider which is his best complementary pitch. The changeup is hard and while it's his third best pitch, getting him the Cardinals organization should help him develop that changeup further. Cijntje is an elite pitcher against right handed batters holding them to a .166 average and a .480 OPS, though he struggles against lefties giving up a .252 average and a .845 OPS. I believe the Cardinals will drop the left-hand, but if they don't he features a low 90s fastball with a low 80s sweeper that profiles as a fringe bullpen role.

Cleveland #Guardians recent sign 25yr old RHP prospect Wes Burton posted a 1.54 ERA with 30 strikeouts over 11.2 innings pitched during the 2025 season in the MLB Draft League with West Virginia. Burton posted a ridiculous 55.1% strikeout rate and a 42.5% whiff rate. He has a three pitch mix of fastball, changeup and curveball with his fastball topping out at 94.6 mph. Crazy extension at over seven feet which is always an organization favorite. #GuardsBall

The Dragons have yet to allow an opponent to score on them all season and are putting up an average of 48 points per game. I got the chance to sit down with Jaelen before the start of the season to talk about why he decided to settle in Arizona and coach at Arizona Compass Prep. RHP Anthony Eyanson (LSU Baseball) is another college arm worth keeping close tabs on this season. After collecting 34 strikeouts across 29 IP as a Freshman, Eyanson last year pitched his way into a full-time starting role and worked a 3.07 ERA with 85 Ks to 24 BB in 82 IP. Last summer on the Cape, Eyanson allowed 2 ER and struck out 6 in as many innings before departing for Team USA. Eyanson has a prototypical pitcher's frame at 6'2" and 195-lbs with some present physicality in his lower-half. He has a simple and under control delivery, and attacks from a three-quarters arm slot. Whippy arm stroke, average arm speed. Eyanson does a nice job of consistently repeating his delivery. Will vary his tempo. Mechanically sound. Eyanson's FB sits in the low-90s, but was up to 97 this summer. Not a real bat-misser right now, but it has riding life in the top-half of the zone and will also flash some run/sink to the arm side at times. Consistently stays off the barrel of opposing hitters with it thanks to his advanced command of the offering. He supplements his FB with two distinct breaking balls. The first of which is a mid-to-upper-70s CB. Eyanson can both land it for strikes and get whiffs out of the zone with it. Will at times flash a big shape with true 12-to-6 action and some teeth. Raises his arm slot slightly when delivering it to get more on top of the baseball. Regularly flashes above-average. For me, Eyanson's best weapon is his low-to-mid-80s SL. Effective against both left and righthanded hitters. He manipulates its shape well and against LHH it has a harder, more gyro look. Against RHH, it flashes two-plane tilt with more sweep than depth. Late bite. Generated a 41% miss rate and held opposing hitters to a .127 average. Would give it a 55. Eyanson rounds out his arsenal with a seldom-used changeup. Sits in the low-80s and while he's still gaining a feel for it, it at times flashed late tumbling life. It's a fine 4th pitch. Eyanson has above-average command and control of his entire arsenal and has a lengthy track record of filling up the strike zone. He pitches with a slow heart beat and screams starter at the next level. In line to pitch on the weekends this season for LSU. Outstanding makeup!

In commemoration, here he is surprising his old friend, the equally sublime Eric Sykes, at some point in the dim and distant past, AKA 1992, with an award for being comedically well above average over a long period of time. God bless Spike!

Incoming freshman INF Jake Fuchs (Westosha Central, 2028) is an athletic prospect with a projectable frame who performed very well at the South Milwaukee event. Fuchs works with high hands and a narrow set-up into an up-and-down stride, gaining ground toward the pitcher. His swing is well-sequenced with rhythm and feel for the barrel, leading to easy extension through the ball. His defense was smooth with quick feet and soft hands, showing range and clean actions. Sometimes, a coach loses a game, much less a regional final, and they're ready to hit the showers, hit the road, and not talk much. It was refreshing to see Louisiana's Head Coach Matt Deggs, who'd just lost 19-5 to Mississippi State, after playing in mid 90s temps earlier in the afternoon just to get the opportunity, willing to talk about the game, his team, and even his expectations for next year. If you're fans of Mississippi State and its Head Coach Brian O' Connor, he will remind you of the same candor, plain-spoken-but-well-spoken type of coach who has both affection for his players but expectations of what he asks and demands of them. This is a coach whose team survived multiple elimination games at the Sun Belt tournament, played at all hours and even multiple locations last week, winding up in the championship game. And when offered a chance to deflect the lopsided score with the drain his team might have faced having only a short while after gutting out a win over 2-seed Cincinnati 8-6, he said his team wasn't tired, though. They just ran out of pitching. And, his analogy that "they were going to have to kill us, and they did" was a tip of the cap to his opponent, whom he deemed worthy of a long run in Omaha. Anyway, let's let Coach Deggs say that, and so much more, in his own words. Write it down now, they look like a team to watch in the Sun Belt for 2027. Brakel has coached his entire 28 years at North Crowley, where he's compiled an 828-163 all-time record. He's coached at the McDonald's All-American Game and USA Basketball Global Games. Brakel is one of the UIL's top 100 Basketball coaches of all time and is our Parker University Boys Basketball Coach of the Year.

6’7 Sophomore Wing Ryan Blount is one of the most intriguing longterm prospects in D2. Blount as a true Sophomore is averaging 22/9/4 on 49/43/88 splits against some of the best competition in D2 basketball. Blount’s mix of shooting, finishing, passing, instincts, and off ball ability makes him an extremely valuable player who can impact the game with and without the ball. Blount is one of the best shooters in D2 who’s shooting 43% on 7 attempts a game and his quick jumper and ability to shoot contested makes him a strong shooting threat, he’s also skilled from the mid range and at the rim and is one of the best cutters and drivers in division 2. Blount’s ability to pass on and off the ball makes him extremely unique as well as there’s not a lot of players his age with his ability to pass the ball at his size.

James is a high level scorer and dominate in the midrange area with his pull-up or floater. He’s a super versatile offensive player with the ability to play on or off ball at a high level, and being able to create for his teammates. He’s also a really good defender that plays with great passion and communication defensively. Quinnipiac has a player with legitimate NBA upside in 6’5 Sophomore Guard Jaden Zimmerman. Through his first 10 games Zimmerman is averaging 17/3/2 while leading the MAAC in PPG so far this season. Zimmerman is one of the best guard athletes in the country and uses his mix of burst and speed to be one of the best finishers in college basketball so far this year in the HC and in Transition shooting 60% at the rim. Zimmerman also has a strong jumper off the catch and is a skilled cutter. Zimmerman also has the ability to create plays for his teammates with his athleticism. Zimmerman has one of the highest ceilings out of any mid major player in college with his mix of athleticism, finishing and spot up shooting for his age.
