Yes, I can vouch for this method but if you like Frank's Hot Sauce there is a much better way in 2024.

Use oil in the batter instead of water because it drains the oil out when frying which makes it crispier.

Soda water works best to carbonate the batter without adding Quinine from tonic, which is bitter. Also adding vodka in the batter will help crispness.

My go to method is to brine ahead of time, and do a dry spiced flour dressing with 1/3 cup corn starch. Key is to bread, and rest on a rack for 20 min prior to frying. Perfect every time.
