BBC News (UK) followed one of the patients at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London who participated in our landmark clinical trial of PRIMA. She began losing her sight more than three decades ago due to age-related macular degeneration. Now she can read again for the first time in years. NEJM published the results of this trial yesterday in a new peer-reviewed original paper.

Ketogenic diets in the ICU? The research is beginning to explore it. In a randomized controlled trial of 40 patients with sepsis, investigators tested a medically supervised ketogenic diet during critical illness. All patients in the ketogenic group achieved stable nutritional ketosis, with no serious adverse events attributed to the intervention. After day four, none of the ketogenic patients required insulin — compared to 35–60% of patients in the control group on any given day. The ketogenic group also experienced: • More ventilator-free days • More vasopressor-free days • More dialysis-free days • More ICU-free days Researchers observed signals consistent with reduced immune dysregulation and lower inflammatory signaling — a meaningful finding in a condition defined by metabolic chaos and systemic inflammation. This was a small, early-phase trial. It does not establish standard of care. But it adds to a growing body of evidence that metabolic therapy may have applications beyond chronic disease — including critical care. I am in San Diego to accept the Esri President’s Award in recognition of Jamaica’s use of this critical platform for problem-solving, most recently in our response to Hurricane Melissa. We are also seeing how cities around the world are using GIS to solve thousands of real-world challenges and the tremendous possibilities this technology offers. Jamaica will not be left behind. We are harnessing the power of technology to drive growth and development. Our participation in the Esri User Conference is both a recognition of the progress we have made and a reaffirmation of our commitment to using innovation to improve lives across Jamaica.

Visual optogenetics is a therapeutic modality that uses Gene Therapy to deliver a light-sensitive protein to cells in the retina. This mechanism of entering light to the eye can then stimulate these cells to produce a visual signal that is sent to the brain and thus “overriding” the retinal cells and to restore vision to vision impaired patients. This mechanism is already in clinical development and the most advanced optogenetic therapy is currently Nanoscope Therapeutics’ MOGENRY (formally known MCO-010) - an Optogenetic Gene Therapy aimed to restore vision in Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) patients with a severe vision loss which is waiting for an FDA approval! Absolutely amazing!

With tremendous progresses in loco-manipulation, a fundamental control problem is still unaddressed, which is leveraging the force and position control for legged loco-manipulation. UniFP addressed this problem and can train your robot to help you carry, work out in gym, tug of war, etc. We have an oral talk in Oral Session 5, Sep 30th Morning, where we will introduce more details.

In our prospective clinical study, our models were able to pinpoint the gestational age within 4 days of accuracy which is a tight enough zone that can have a really meaningful clinical impact. If we're able to expand these tools to low resource settings, we can start to move the needle on maternal deaths and bridge that gap in care that we see all over the world.

We are excited to be working on a new research study which is aiming to create a lateral flow test (LFT) to determine whether a patient is suffering a stroke. We are working alongside the University of Birmingham and University Hospitals Birmingham on the Ghost study, which will see us obtain saliva from patients who are demonstrating stroke symptoms, to help create an LFT which in turn will help to speed up access to brain-saving treatment and saving more patients. Today we’re releasing V-JEPA, a method for teaching machines to understand and model the physical world by watching videos. This work is another important step towards Yann LeCun’s outlined vision of AI models that use a learned understanding of the world to plan, reason and accomplish complex tasks. Details ➡️ We're releasing a collection of V-JEPA vision models trained with a feature prediction objective using self-supervised learning. The models are able to understand and predict what is going on in a video, even with limited information. It learns by predicting missing or obscured parts of a video in its internal feature space. Unlike generative approaches that fill in missing pixels, this flexible approach enables up to 6x improvements in training and sample efficiency. The models were pre-trained on entirely unlabeled data, and a small amount of labeled data can be used to train a task-specific prediction head on top after pre-training. Our results show that, using a frozen backbone, our top V-JEPA models achieve 82.0% on Kinetics-400, 72.2% on Something-Something-v2 and 77.9% on ImageNet1K — competitive with or exceeding previous leading video models. We believe that this work is an important milestone on the path to advancing machine intelligence.

We are preparing for new areas of cooperation with partners, such as those on drones, in order to increase our capabilities in using drones, countering Russian ones, and strengthening our electronic warfare. I also held a meeting on security guarantees, which is one of our key priorities. The related bilateral work with partners is ongoing. Today, we outlined the results we can attain in the near future.

Today, we are announcing a critical step: our first partnership using our AI scientist, Kosmos, to launch new biotech companies. Many of the most transformative new medicines begin life in biotech companies rather than big pharmas. We are partnering with Population Health Partners (PHP) to deploy Kosmos across their company creation pipeline. Kosmos will assist in the creation of PHP’s companies, allowing us to bring more medicines to patients. PHP has an outstanding track record of incubating successful biotech companies like Metsera Inc. (acquired by Pfizer Inc. in a $10B deal), and The Medicines Company (acquired by Novartis for $9.7B), to name just two. With PHP, we will focus on biotechs treating population-scale diseases like cardiovascular disease and obesity. If we can scale up the process of launching Metsera-style companies, we have an opportunity to transform medicine in the coming years.

Our medical research system, AMIE, is the first patient-facing conversational diagnostic tool of its kind to be studied prospectively in a real-world clinical setting. In a study, published today in The Lancet, we found that when patients chatted with AMIE before an in-person appointment, the interaction built their confidence and helped them organize their thoughts. And physicians who reviewed the information from the patient conversation got more time back to focus on collaborative care and shared decision-making instead of digging through data.
