Can someone explain why I shouldn’t be looking at GLP-1s? I could stand to lose 20 lbs, I’ve got sleep apnea, and apparently these drugs help with a hell of a lot more than weight. Am I missing something… are these NOT miracle drugs?

@DefiyantlyFree Muscle loss and vision problems. Read about these side effects for some users.

@DefiyantlyFree I’ve read about some of the side effects… most all say that even the extreme ones like these go away fairly quickly.

@DumpStation24 @DefiyantlyFree Not the stomach and vegal nerve paralysis.

@DumpStation24 @DefiyantlyFree One, it works on the Vagas nerve and what you’re talking about is temporary, goes away when you stop, with rates of it happening at under 1 in every 1000.

Everyone I know that is on them has diarrhea, ALOT. Also many have frequent stomach pain. A better idea is change your diet and exercise more. The weigh will come off! These drugs are bad news!

They’re bad because of diarrhea? What else is bad about them?

I started tirzepatide. Month 2 starts next week. So far, the biggest thing I’ve noticed is how much it shuts down the constant food noise. I’m eating less without feeling like I’m fighting myself all day.

DO NOT take these drugs unless you absolutely must. Permanently change your eating and exercise habits. It will take more time but it is worth it.

I probably could stand to lose a few pounds, and I probably would if I would just cut down on the Cinnamon Toast Crunch. HOWEVER - I avoid GLP-1s because I like my vision.

Фото профиля Mike Mac
Mike Mac1 день назад

Well, unless you were that one in over 100,000 people that it happened to that I think you should be fine. You have a better chance of eating a Cuban dish with yuca root and causing worse damage than a GLP 1 does to your vision

People harp about muscle loss but if you research it there is no significant difference between GLP-1 weight loss and calorie deficit without it. The studies show within 1% difference of "lean mass lost"

Фото профиля Mike Mac
Mike Mac1 день назад

Exactly…and plus if you continue to lift heavy, eat protein, why would there be muscle loss?

Фото профиля Alex Gordon
Alex Gordon1 день назад

My understanding is that muscle loss is unavoidable in weight loss. But protein intake being kept up and lifting both help substantially.

Anyone who says no to these are morons .. Tom Scarlet capitalized "do not" ...What Tom and others who are ignorant AF on the subject doesn't realize insulin resistance continues into old age .. Alzheimer's is called Diabetes Mellitis 3 ...These medications reverse insulin resistance thus preventative to cognitive loss ...Idiots ..

Major muscle loss. No thank you.

Фото профиля Mike Mac

I’ve heard that too but there’s no straight data that shows it. That 25% number people throw around isn’t even pure muscle. The scan they use (DXA) counts water, organs, and other non-fat stuff as “lean mass,” so it makes the muscle loss look bigger than it is. Also, when they actually looked at ‘thigh muscle’ with MRI (SURPASS-3, about a year), the drop in muscle volume was small and basically what you’d expect from ANYONE losing that much weight. And the fat inside the muscle went down, so the muscle they kept was actually cleaner. Quality got better even while the volume dipped a little. As a weightlifter myself, ZERO of those trials made anyone lift weights or hit a protein goal. Not ONE. That’s the part that actually protects muscle. Real-world data over the first 12 weeks looks the same: like 78% of the early loss is fat, lean tissue only dips a bit, and lean mass as a share of your body weight actually goes up. So yeah, if you drop 15–20% of your body weight you’re gonna lose some lean tissue. That’s just what happens with any big weight loss, especially if you’re older or not eating protein or lifting. It’s not Zepbound selectively eating your muscle. Even the label says you lose more fat than lean mass. The data is just not there for that claim.

It’s not a terrible idea. But ultimately you need to change what you put in your mouth. If you’re going to commit do it right. Also you need to prioritize protein and strength training. Lean muscle is also lost on the GLPs. You do not want to lose 30lbs of fat and 10 lbs of lean muscle. Will take years to get the muscle back if ever. I personally suggest keto or carnivore

Well, according to all these people on x who drink and smoke and do anti-depressants and Adderall, and they all say you’re going to die if you take it so… 😂 Thanks for that inside, brother. Update me when you get there. I’d like to hear more about your story.

They work but there’s no free lunch ever. Side effects include bone density and muscle loss, organ mass loss, GI issues, loss of eyesight, depression and drop of sex drive. Also weight comes back typically when you come off the drug. I’m waiting for retatrutide. Less side effects and faster fat burn. Think is good for a quick hit of a one or two month discipline diet and weight loss, but staying on them there are problems

I did the glp for 3 months. No side effects. Lost 15 lbs. Kept getting anxiety about the shot so I quit. Gained all the 15 back plus 20. Went on paleo diet and lost 70 in a year. Its 100% diet.

Go for the carnivore diet - if you can. You'll lose 3-5 lbs a week (as a dude) and the bonus is if you eat a lot of bacon, you won't end up marrying a child.

@DefiyantlyFree I had great success on them. However, I began an exercise regime which has helped me immensely. I honestly couldn’t have done it without them. 130lbs lighter and healthier than I have ever been. It’s not for all but I am glad I had this option as I couldn’t do it in my own.

There is no such thing as a miracle drug. "Miracle drug" is an oxymoron by definition. Look up the concept of an LD50 rating... All drugs must have this rating assigned. @grok what is an LD50 rating and does it technically mean that a pharmaceutical could kill me in various doses?

I know like 2 people on it who don’t look terrible. Everyone else I personally know looks all sunken in and sick. One even admitted they need to gain some weight back. I think it’s far too early to know the true longer term side effects.

Try to eliminate as much processed food, sugar, and carbs from your diet as possible while doing intermittent fasting (eating only from noon [coffee or water until noon] through 7pm during the week) then fast for the entirety of your Sabbath day. Yes, it will feel like ur…

Have you looked into carbohydrate restriction? Like, to 40 g carbohydrates of any kind, per day? Something to ease into over the course of a couple of weeks. Lots of us have normalized weight, stopped snoring, etc. w/o much fuss or expense or risk.

@DefiyantlyFree A bunch of people will take anything for quick results. There’s nothing worse than taking a drug to lose weight… Wake up, government would love to see people go blind etc. seriously stop eating like there’s no tomorrow. Walk even in one place if you have too.

You’re saying there is nothing worse on this planet than taking a drug to lose weight? so a guy who’s 400 pounds gets down to 200 pounds and his whole life is transformed and he loves life and his numbers are great and his blood work is great and you’re telling him that he’s a fat loser because he just did something that’s the worst thing in the world? Sorry but that’s just dumb.

Фото профиля Joan07

@DefiyantlyFree Because two people I know 1 died from it, the other has vision loss. They became to dependent on it as a way to lose weight. Why were there no overweight people years ago. People went to a circus to see a fat lady.

@DefiyantlyFree I don’t know about you, but all these comments make me not want to try it. And I had just asked me doctor about giving it a try. Was going to set an appt. Think I’ll pass.

Фото профиля Mike Mac
Mike Mac1 день назад

All of these people that are saying this have never tried it. They’ve never done it and none of the data supports what they say. They all drink and they all smoke and they all take anti-depressants and they all take Adderall and they all drink tons of caffeine and they stress out and they don’t exercise but God forbid somebody wants to try a GLP one which has had overwhelming success to the level of absolute some of the best drugs of all time, but all they could do is bash it and call it the second coming of Covid. They’re ridiculous idiots. People having eye damage from it is in the 1 of 100’s of thousands — the overwhelming side effects of this from everything that I’ve read and all the real data is diarrhea and nausea for maybe a week or so. But even those side effects are rare. Everybody’s got a friend who had to magically go to the hospital because of a frozen stomach. What a doctor will tell you is that if you try it and you don’t like it then just stop it because all the side effects go away when you stop anyway. X is full of idiots.

Never jump into messing with your body chemistry via drugs unless you have exhausted all other options. Cut way back on carbs and increase your movement. If that isn’t possible, have a talk with your doctor. But Iwould think looking at what/how much you eat would take care of it. Men generally lose weight more easily than women for biological reasons.

Фото профиля Mike Mac
Mike Mac1 день назад

I don’t understand why people tell me not to mess with my body when everybody on here drinks and smokes and eats like shit and they do this stuff over and over again they stress out they take antidepressants and adderall and drink loads of caffiene, they smoke dope, but boy you talk about a GLP one drug and everybody loses their freaking mind. It’s ridiculous to be honest

New episode of HARD DRUGS! Are miracle drugs hiding in plain sight? GLP-1 drugs have transformed diabetes and obesity, can help treat heart disease, kidney disease, sleep apnea, and may also work against dementia. But they’re far from the only medicine with more multiple uses. Aspirin, colchicine, minoxidil, Botox, and, famously, Viagra were all found to treat more conditions than expected. (Did you know that BCG vaccines are used to treat bladder cancer?) In fact, about a third of FDA-approved small molecule drugs are later approved for a second use. But sometimes, it takes several decades - and public funding - to learn whether existing drugs could work for more conditions. Moxidectin, for example, went untested for human diseases for decades; we now know that it can cure ~70% of whipworm infections in kids. Aspirin was used for over a century before we found it had cardiovascular benefits. Why? The commercial incentive to test further is time-limited: once a drug goes off-patent and generics can enter, drug developers can get undercut, so it’s no longer worth it to run expensive clinical trials to test other uses. The problem is even larger for tropical diseases, which are often not profitable to treat in the first place. The result is that we’re missing out on knowing about a lot of additional uses of already-approved drugs! There may be more miracle drugs hiding in plain sight. And economists estimate the ‘missing innovation’ would be worth 100 to 400 billion dollars in social value annually(!) How do we solve this? In this episode, Jacob Trefethen and I chat about all the above and more!
