The merchant is holding $11 in his hand, but only $10 came from the customer. The other $1 came from the till. So the customer paid only $10 for the two pieces.

He gave him $10 for a $9 Crystal and got $1 back. Then wanted to buy a $2 crystal but paid with the $1 coin he got as change. He tricked the merchant by confusing him into thinking the change was enough in exchange but in reality the customer only paid $10 and swindled $1 ๐Ÿง
