Sea state 2 on Petersen scale, slightly moving sea, crests partially breaking, isolated white foam heads. At Beaufort 9, the storm rages, equivalent to sea state 7. Moderately high wave mountains then shape the picture, their long crests lose spray. Foam stripes follow the wind.
