For better or worse, I noted that many influential tech people on here seem to hold the metaphysical view ‘we’re living in a simulation’, which is a subclass of Creationism. But no one has stated a rationale as to why its assumed so hard. Worth discussion, @BasedBeffJezos ?

@RichardDawkins thank you for being part of my journey in discovering the mesmerizing nature of science especially biological evolution. I am a Catholic (similar to Father Coyne in your interview). Thank you for your dedication to science. If a Creator exists, he’s proud of you❤️

Belief is only needed when knowledge is missing.

You can, but a proper understanding of evolution should do away with the notion that design necessarily implies a designer.

All that is relevant is the evidence, so you can believe evolution is the best explanation of how humans came to be what they are (lots of evidence) and you can believe gods exist (no evidence) but if you believe both, then you are an emotion based believer, not an evidence based believer - the best test for what sort of believer you really are is can you say "God is a fucking shitbag"

I don’t think anyone doubts that there are rational principles the universe follows: particles obey equations of motion, cultivars obey evolutionary principles. But where did this belief and ethos that the universe should be reasonable and science possible come from? It is a Judeo-C derived phiosophy

No. Evolution I think is not true. Information for example cannot be generated from mindless matter, but from a mind.

Religion is as biologically essential for humans as courtship dances are for the birds of paradise. It's a vital expression of our genome, of our phenotype. It might seem unnecessary from a materialist world view, but then so would the courtship dances of the birds of paradise.

You can believe whatever you want, just don’t be upset when other people fight you with facts.
