“This is the tragedy: Consciousness has forced us into the paradoxical position of striving to be unself-conscious of what we are—hunks of spoiling flesh on disintegrating bones.“ - Thomas Ligotti

Consciousness: the ultimate unsolvable mystery.

Imagine a "creature" completely without sensory organs. Can it be conscious? I would say no. So I suspect consiousness is a function of sensory organs and a brains ability to process input from said organs.

Richard... just humans?

Mr. Dawkins, consciousness is for all we know the only thing that exists; it's not an emergent property of a brain, it's the RAW MATERIAL that Darwinian evolution acts on. Examine the world, and you perceive colors, tactile sensations, melodies, etcetera. Those things are...

@ihenriksen @RichardDawkins Which religion?

@ihenriksen @RichardDawkins The god of the gaps🥱

It is indeed a big mystery worth pondering! I'm confused where you say that 'we all know we've got it (consciousness)', but then you say 'you think it is an illusion'. I realize it's a short clip, but what is the difference between the 'consciousness is an illusion', which you like and the 'zombie robots' which you don't like?

I love the notion of this Wonderlust clip though…. Beautiful expressions of wonder ..”why “❤️🙏 Hinduism also considered… being Human is a rare and once in a million years opportunity… where you have a chance to wake up and realize … you are indeed a conscious being and you can look within & realize “You are That” “Thou art that” Gita says…. “Curving back within, I create again and again”!! Perhaps, the answer is … consciousness likes to muse itself… in Hinduism we call this a Divine play, as a play of “Shiva-Shakti” Shiva is the consciousness & Shakti is the creativity expressions!!!

Why does the pursuit of answers often overlook the inclusion of art? It is evident that art plays a pivotal role in the elevation of consciousness. The earliest instances of rock art, notably the intricately engraved depictions by homo naledi, mark the transition from primal expressions to the emergence of conscious homo sapiens. Despite this, the tendency is to disregard the profound impact of art, including the enigmatic geometric shapes and markings within the Rising Star Cave. Regrettably, the inherent value of art seems to be systematically undervalued and marginalized in the discourse surrounding paramount scientific inquiries.
