The F4U was a beast for a single engine plane. The R-2800 was a 18 cylinder radial engine with 1800 HP. When you performed the T/O you had to lower the nose to gain airspeed as the rudder did not have enough authority to compensate for the massive torque from the engine. Stalled

Having done a deck run take-off from a carrier (flying the T-28 off of USS Lexington for my first carrier qualification session) we were taught accelerate THEN climb. This was even more important with the F-4U Corsair which, as a tail dragger, needs some nose-down control input to raise the tail wheel off the deck. This is needed to safely accelerate and achieve safe climb speed. This pilot never raised the tail up and tried to establish a climb immediately after clearing the deck.

The pilot pushed the throttle all the way forward without applying enough aileron to counteract the engine torque. This was a common accident with the Corsair. It’s one of the reasons they were called Ensign Eliminators.

Man you just keep going back farther and farther to find plane crash engagement bait. Imagine if you took the time to actually create something instead of just milking tragedies from the past.

Insufficient throttle before launch. That’s actually a catapult launch. You can see the pull sled under the aircraft between the wheels if you look closely. That’s hooked to a cable that runs to two hooks under the Corsair’s fuselage. We had cats in WWII for launching with a shorter deck. In this case, it looks like the pilot didn’t have the throttle opened up sufficiently before the cat rolled and when he started to stall he jammed the power on and failed to correct sufficiently for the torque from the engine as others have already said.
