Wild guess: a lot of hail; intake shroud and fan blade debris then tore up the rest of the engine, caused fire and explosions, tearing through shrouds. But how the plane got back on the ground if that happened, I have no idea, b/c it would have taken both engines.

The fact that every turbine blade has similar damage seems it wasn't just a single bird ingestion. Something got stuck on them long enough for a full or multiple rotation impacts to break every single one similarly and then chunks sucked in caused internal fire/explosive damage.
