You didn’t answer well enough to the question about the repeater being between two multipoint shared medium. On each of the two cables connected to it we can hook in parallel several devices. (up to 32 IIRC for the coaxial). So the repeater can connect up to 64 devices together.

And we had the 3com link builder before switches, with fixed TP cables same length. After that we had switching hubs, meaning depending on port speed they behaved like hubs to all 10Mb/s targets or 100Mb/s between the two speeds like a switch … And so much more 😃 30y ago
