Carlos Sainz makes sense. Always. There’s a simpler solution to making Formula 1 a “true” Drivers’ World Championship. The teams can anyway make their money, while the drivers get a fair chance to battle. Who do you think wins this?

🗣️: Do you believe teammates in F1 teams should be able to just fight openly for championships or do you think inevitably there has to be some control from the pit wall? Carlos: I think it depends on the domination of the team. I think the Mercedes years was a perfect example of them being so dominating that they could afford to fight each other a bit more. I think whenever their championship can go away to a different team, a different driver, you need to respect that and be a bit more careful. I think even if the teams don't say that, the drivers' championship is something that a team wants. 🗣️: Especially when the other driver is Max Verstappen. Carlos: It doesn't matter who the other driver is. If the other driver is called Pepe or Pepito, it doesn't matter. If that championship can go for the team and the driver, and you have two drivers fighting for it, and there's one guy that can take it, it doesn't matter if it's Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen or Charles Leclerc. You want the championship for your two drivers, so you want to keep them relatively under control.

Using Tesla FSD and looking out at the road makes you realize that the majority of drivers out there are barely paying attention while they manually drive their vehicles. It is beyond frustrating that people do this, but the genie is out of the bottle now - I don’t think there’s anything society can do to convince people not to use their phones while driving. That is why self-driving needs to become the norm as soon as possible. Not only does it make YOU safer while using it, it makes it safer for everyone else on the road who is impacted by how you drive. I really hope insurance companies start to reduce rates for people who use autonomous driving features - I really think that would be a big motivator (money) for people to start using FSD.

I know I'm probably not gonna make a change, but my target in life as a racing driver in a way is trying to make the basics of motorsport a bit more affordable because it's nuts, the amount of money now young people need to spend to compete in karting.”

As a gesture of goodwill towards drivers, I sometimes pull over to allow "faster traffic" to pass. But to be honest I do it because I get an enormous sense of satisfaction from passing those same drivers again while demonstrating the inefficiencies of cars on urban roads.
