🦇Castlevania AGA "how it started" comparison. Released the 1.0 version last Saturday for the 40th anniversary of the Castlevania series. Includes a PDF manual to print and other goodies. It's vastly improved over the older versions that are floating around in emulation packs.

100% real human talent: @Estrayk33 arranged Vampire Killer and other iconic tracks on the Paula soundchip of the Amiga. @Emppixel did Simon, pixel by pixel. @DJ_METUNE arranged the intro, among others. IM79: final boss music, among others. Last but not least, Earok (engine).👏

Given how powerful the Amiga hardware was, why did the original Amiga port of Castlevania turn out inferior to the NES release? Your new AGA reimagining looks absolutely stunning and fixes all those old shortcomings beautifully!

I wrote about that in the PDF manual for the AGA game (sounds like a rant :)). Games with recognizable names like this: tendency was to sell only on name's strength. Game itself was secondary, rushed for a quick buck. Happened on all computers (PC MS-DOS, etc.), not only Amiga.

Normally US Gold outsourced ports, but this one’s Novotrade. Perhaps even US Gold couldn’t have botched it this hard.😂

You rock dood

😉 On the game's PDF manual:

Can't wait to see you tackle Rondo of Blood for AGA 1200 or CD32! 💪💪💪 You do amazing work!

Thnx! I briefly talked with Earok (engine's author) about Symphony of the Night. Something similar to the Mega Drive version could be made for A1200/CD32 (MD: bottom left corner in the video below). But I can't promise now, I have original games queued.😎

Whatever you choose to do next original or otherwise will be amazing!

amazing work! Congrats!

Can't believe how amazing and "beefy" this looks, nice to what the Amiga can do when some time and love is put in.

Thanks! And yeah, and we're making the AGA dream come true: back then when I had the A1200, I wanted games that used its hardware properly (not only a few more colors added) but they kept releasing OCS stuff as far as 1995 with ODYSSEY and whatnot.😬

wow 👏

does the CD audio work now?

It does (since an early 2025 update).👍

O jogo esta completo?

Sim, eu coloquei aquela opção no Itchio "lançado, mas pode receber atualizações no futuro". Que achei bem abrangente e condizente com a realidade. :)

It's quite gorgeous. I would love to see a version of this on SNES with all the layers and such too.

Speaking of SNES, Super Castlevania IV was my favorite growing up.

It's a great game! :D

Damn that looks and sounds great. The amiga is a confusing little beast. Sometimes it looks substandard and other times just absolutely amazing never had one growing up but always curious about it. Literally needs to be in the right hands and it can be amazing.

Are there any plans to add the X68000/Chronicles exclusive levels as alternates, akin to Rondo of Blood?

Really feels criminal how lacklustre several Amiga ports were back in the day vs what the Amiga was capable of...even moreso with the limited commercial lifespan of the AGA models. Top stuff!👍

Improved for whom? Purists might prefer the original glitches. Does your version fix or alter the intended difficulty?

Let me be clear, the original for the *home **computers** in general* was a rushed cash crab. The same happened with most "big name games" on computers: to sell based on the name, not the game itself. Castlevania was one of those (check the PC MS-DOS version, same thing).
