I've seen a lot of animatics lately that are super detailed, essentially viewport previews of the final shot. But an animatic at it's core doesn't need to be anything fancy. Its main purpose is to plan and test the timing, camera angles, movement, and overall composition. With animatics you have to keep in mind the following: Pre-visualization: It allows to see a basic version of the animation or scene before committing to detailed work. Timing and pacing: An animatic helps identify how long each scene or shot should last, ensuring that the timing feels right. Planning: It helps with layout, camera angles, and transitions. By visualizing the shots, the team can ensure that the framing and overall design of the scenes work well in 3D space. Efficiency: It allows the team to test and fix any potential issues early on, like awkward movements or awkward pacing, before spending time on high-quality rendering or complex animation. In short, an animatic helps in conceptualizing the final animation by giving a low-res, rough version of the scenes, which guides the entire production process in terms of visual design, timing, and storytelling.

Furniture assembly is the task everyone name-drops and nobody actually attempts at real scale. Every demo I have seen is a scaled down IKEA leg or a single arm on a toy chair. This paper does it properly, real scale, bimanual, up to 7 subtasks and 1,550 control steps per episode, and it is validated on a real Kinova Gen3, not just in sim. That real-robot number is the one that matters: only a 16 percent drop on the hardest task going from simulation to hardware. That is a small enough gap to take seriously, and it did not happen by accident. They built a VR teleoperation rig specifically for coordinated dual-arm collection, because generic single-arm teleop setups do not capture the coordination real assembly needs, and the model predicts a continuous progress signal alongside the action chunk rather than a discrete subtask label, letting it auto-transition and catch drift before it compounds into total failure. The simulation ablation is what got them there, 48 to 80 percent over baselines, with another 21 points from their perception and control design study alone, but that is groundwork, not the headline. This ball had just a 55% catch probability, and is just made to look so easy by Ceddanne Rafaela. It's all about what you don't see on the screen, because it happens before the camera is on the play. The jump is 9.0 feet above average. He was positioned well into right-center. Lesser outfielders win catch on the week on this one with a full extension dive.

Not a change, but I've had a TON of folks asking if this is getting changed from June 10. This is a ball hit by Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers and it was ruled an error on Jake Mangum of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The only thing I can think of is that Mookie didn't appeal, because this is a base hit, it's always been a base hit, and it will continue to be a base hit. Except on this one play. There is no way a sliding attempt like this is an error. I know Mangum broke the wrong way, but that doesn't factor it ... it's the catch, the physical catch, and there is ZERO CHANCE this is ordinary effort. I know we talk changes here, but this non-change is the most confounding one for me since Aaron Judge's first career walk-off hit, which was the most obvious fielder's choice of all time, but because it was the last play of the season, it didn't get appealed or changed.

I opened it up to do Zoom calls last week thinking I’d just get a few. 40 people booked calls within the first 24 hours. 🥴 I was worn out. But, one the underlying theme was “Hey I’m looking at this land in NC/TN/GA..is this a good piece?” Let me reiterate…what lurks below those top few inches of soil in ANY mountainous area you buy land or buy a single lot in can be a total nightmare. You have to be very careful with that initial purchase. Anyone who did a Zoom call with me found out the main key steps to go through before you sign a contract, but, let here is a recent example of 1/2 acre lot I built a cabin on recently, in an existing development. The amount of rock we had to bust through almost killed the job. It took over 2 months of non stop hammering to get the lot prepped with my CAT machines. This is why I have a very detailed approach before I even buy a small lot to build on at this point. The cost of excavating/prepping even a small 1/3 acre the lot can run you well north of $100,000 if you’re not careful.

This tool is amazing and if you are looking into XR design you MUST try ShapesXR - every time I think of an idea I can easily prototype it before spending a lot of time in development. I also love the fact that I was able to import this into Unity, I made a few changes after the fact but it allowed me to get started fairly quickly.
