(Caution: flashing) In Super Mario World, Bowser *is* lightning. The Bowser object starts up the lightning effect in his boss battle. Spawning him anywhere else does not make him appear, but does increase the severity of the lightning with each additional Bowser.

for anybody who wants to know: - this happens because the lightning effect is a timer, and multiple instances of the object cause the timer to decrement multiple times - the hammers are the "castle" - in the normal game Bowser is mode 7 which doesn't work with a normal BG/FG mode

Mario is taken behind a cliff and gets shot

Yeah the Bowser battle uses a special level mode due to the fight using mode 7, hence only the lightning part works in normal levels. I vaguely recall modders using this effect as a lightning generator in the old days, until someone reverse engineered or replicated it.

how many bowsers does it take for the lightning to stick on every frame? i.e. making the screen completely white

Bowser’s presence in this game is so powerful, he can summon lightning at will.

bowser is zeus theory

whats with the hammers

Behold the Bowser; He is this madness. He is this lightning.

Why is mario walking behind everything, and just dies randomly at the end?

Interesting Can I ask why those hammers are appearing above?
