I totally get the sentiment that Cavan needs to play more, given the situation (with his departure to Europe somewhat imminent). However, I don’t know that a game in Trinidad and Tobago, especially while already up by a comfortable margin, is the best situation for him to come on. You can’t control tackles like these, but it doesn’t feel like the best environment for him to stay healthy and continue to grow. #doop #MLS #USYMNT #USMNT 📹: CONCACAF

Cavan Sullivan is remaining with the Union squad for the first two matches of the best-of-three series against Chicago, instead of joining the U-17 U.S. World Cup camp. Here’s Carnell speaking about the decision — a collaborative one made between the Union, U.S. Soccer, and Cavan: "I think Cavan knew that we’re a little bit thin right now. He came up to us, and it was a good group discussion with Ernst, myself, and Cavan. He threw the idea in there, knowing that Rafa was out for a certain time and knowing that we’re a pretty thin group right now. And yeah, we decided, with good cooperation with U.S. Soccer, that he would stay for these two games. Credit to him. He wants to be around the group. He wants to give something. I have no problem with any expectations that anyone has. But, you know, I’m not in an individual sport, I’m in a team sport. Harry Kewell felt like a "galactico" signing. He had rejected lucrative offers from Milan, Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona, to move to the club he supported as a boy. He was one of the most gifted players, won the PFA young player of the year. He did have his moments but unfortunately a rare bacterial septic arthritis infection robbed us of an all time great. This is him scoring some scorchers from Leeds days!
