I just had an excellent meeting with Magyar Péter (Ne féljetek) in Budapest on my #TourdesCapitales. 🇭🇺 Meeting the European leaders in their home countries is fundamental to hear their expectations and prepare our work ahead. European unity cannot be taken for granted - we build it day by day, every day. Today we focused our discussions on the EU’s long-term budget and on enlargement. I received briefings by Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov and NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov. General Hnatov reported on our defensive actions and Ukraine’s deep strikes over the past day – there are good results. I thank the Defense Forces, all our warriors, and the manufacturers — everyone involved in long-range strikes. We will keep building our strength. Rustem Umerov provided a detailed report on the implementation of our recent security and economic agreements in the Middle East and the Gulf region. We are making progress as planned. Separately, we are working on the strategic Drone Deal with the European Union. The day before, we discussed this in detail with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. We are developing a plan that will help strengthen Europe’s defense and cover all key security elements. I instructed Andrii Hnatov and Rustem Umerov to work out the specific military modalities of this cooperation with the European Union.

We discussed the need to strengthen sanctions pressure on Russia, the situation on the frontline, and diplomatic work with partners. During a meeting with Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo, I thanked him for Finland’s recent decision to allocate an additional $300 million in defense support for Ukraine. We sincerely appreciate this, and we discussed priority areas of our defense – particularly air defense – that can be strengthened with this package. I proposed to the Prime Minister that we strengthen our bilateral partnership by signing an agreement in the format of the Drone Deal. Ukraine is ready to share its expertise and strengthen those who have been strengthening us since the very beginning of the full-scale invasion. We also touched on international cooperation, particularly our European integration. There is now a good window of opportunity to open the negotiating clusters, and Ukraine fully deserves this. I thank Finland for its support.

I met with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever in Brussels. I thanked the government and all Belgians for their support, particularly for the decision to transfer F-16 fighter jets. We greatly appreciate these strong steps to protect Ukrainian lives. I informed the Prime Minister about the preparation of a European plan to bring a just peace closer and invited him to take part in its development. During our talks, we focused particularly on defense needs, primarily the supply of artillery systems and ammunition, as well as investment in Ukraine’s domestic production of long-range drones and missiles. These systems have already proven their effectiveness on the front lines, and we must work together to strengthen this advantage. We also discussed Ukraine’s integration into the EU. I am grateful to Belgium for its unwavering support for Ukraine.

I met with Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi. I was pleased to welcome the Minister to Ukraine’s annual meeting of ambassadors. His presence reflects the fact that Ukraine and Moldova share many foreign policy priorities, particularly in the areas of security and European aspirations. It is important that we continue moving forward together across the full range of our shared objectives. We also discussed a number of practical projects that can and should be implemented, including in infrastructure and energy. For us, these are first and foremost matters of security and mutual assistance. I am grateful to Moldova for its consistent support for our people and our defense.

When Russia constantly demonstrates its desire to escalate the war, the response should be stronger sanctions, not the other way around. No name on the sanctions list is there by accident: each one represents a reason why this war started and continues to this day, and why our people are being killed every day. I thank Denmark for supporting this position, and I count on all our partners in Europe to remain united and work to achieve peace. Of course, we also discussed Ukraine’s financial resilience and decisions that could help cover the gap in our budget. I briefed the Prime Minister on the situation with Russian attacks and our solutions for countering jet-powered “shaheds.” We also discussed our joint defense production, including the construction of new facilities. Today, we discussed joint work in the energy sector, the infrastructure that connects us and constitutes a significant part of the economic potential of our countries, the development of security capabilities, and our European integration. It is important that we are here like this – together – Ukraine, Moldova, and Romania. On Moldova’s Independence Day, and just a few days after Ukraine marked its Independence Day. And all of this is much more than mere symbolism. When you are a neighbor of Russia, you need to cooperate as closely as possible with all your other neighbors, with all other free nations. This is a key prerequisite for reliable defense and, more broadly, for development. Unfortunately, our peoples have already had to experience unfreedom – precisely because of Moscow. This must remain in the past. From now on, and forever, we must safeguard our independence, our freedom, and therefore our ability to develop our own potential – our own life.
