He survived the initial attack, was discharged from the hospital, but died due to a blood clot on January 22, 2000. Police investigations linked the shooting to Tracey Tarlton, whom Celeste had met in a mental health facility. Celeste and Tarlton, who both desired a romantic relationship, reportedly decided that the only way to be together was to eliminate Steven. Tarlton, who carried out the shooting, was arrested six days later at her home and charged with assault. She remained silent until July 2000, when she learned from a newspaper that Celeste had remarried just six months after Steven’s death, realizing she had been deceived. Shortly before her trial in March 2002, Tarlton revealed to the police that Celeste had manipulated her into shooting Steven, alleging that he had emotionally abused Celeste to the brink of suicide. He claimed he was from maintenance but she never got any notice nor did she report anything for repair. She ending up calling the police. To her dismay, they stated that they wouldn’t charge the maintenance man for entering, nor did he ever tell the officers why he was even there. So at this point she’s claiming they didn’t give her a notice for entry, if that’s true, should they be charged for invasion of privacy especially since she wasn’t dressed decently when it happened?
