I religiously read NYT and WSJ thru pandemic. My turning point was watching all the quarantine rules go out the window for BLM riots. Hypocrisy was appalling.

Have to admit this but my turning point was when Biden admin didn't invite Elon and Tesla to the EV Summit he held and then publicly announced that Ford's CEO was leading the race in EVs. smh

@KatieMiller So was I too at one point. I actually believed Paul Krugman in 2016 when he wrote in the NYTimes that Trump would tank the economy. Just because it was in the NYTimes. I was that gullible. “Oh. He won a noble prize” Now I see through all that fake sh*t

Even sophisticated investors can be shaped by mainstream media. Chamath’s admission serves as a reminder that critical thinking and independent analysis are essential, regardless of the perceived authority of the source. It is noteworthy that Chamath cites specific sources, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, which demonstrates that he is not referring to questionable media but to recognized and respected publications. This underscores that the issue does not lie in the source of information itself, but in how habitual news consumption and a lack of critical analysis can shape one’s thinking.

What’s funny is this guy, and Elon, most conservatives… retweet shit that’s 10x as misleading as MSM. Sometimes they get it right but there are millions of people who used to watch MSM and have SOME connection to reality, that are now totally and hopelessly divorced from it

Happened to me, too. It was hard to admit at first, but I am so glad I figured it out before it got worse. Mine was the "fine people on both sides" I went back and watched both press conferences and then looked up the complete transcript. I was arguing with someone at the time and was about to show them! What really made me so angry? The NYT bills itself a place for educated people so here I am assuming they wouldn't lie. They wouldn't want educated people to look stupid. That's what I figured. Ha. Haha. Ha. Ha. Wrong!!! There is nothing worse than looking like a complete effing idiot knowing the "paper of record" set your ass up to look like an imbecile!

On a positive note, if you can ever get someone who still trusts the MSM to genuinely start questioning it, it usually doesn’t take them long to see through the narrative. Once the first inconsistency or hypocrisy hits like the BLM riots vs. lockdown rules, or watching an unfiltered Trump rally instead of the edited clips, the whole house of cards starts crumbling fast. Many people share that exact experience: a few weeks or months of real digging, and they go from “this is reliable” to “how did I ever buy this?” Chamath’s story is just one more example of how powerful that initial crack can be.

If you read both sides you at leave had some appreciation that there are 2 points of view. You can watch CNN and Fox and just draw a line down the middle - but appreciate there’s topics both ignore too. 😞

Billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya explains that once he learned the mainstream media was lying to him, he left the Democrat Party “You went from being a large Democrat donor to now a very outspoken proponent on the other side of the aisle” Chamath Palihapitiya “Yeah — This is not about politics for me, it's about the truth. There was a moment where I was basically like everybody else, and pretty brainwashed. My media diet was very much the same as everybody else's. I read the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. I watched a little bit of CNN, a little bit of CNBC, a little bit of MSNBC, a little bit of CBS Economist. Every now and then you encounter it on a plane and you think you know what's going on, and I had a perception of Donald Trump initially, from the moment he walked down the staircase in Trump Tower to announce. And then over the course of 6-7 years, I realized that some of those fundamental things that I was told about him were just totally false. And there was enough content online where I was almost afraid, but it started with Charlottesville. I was almost afraid to look at it because I'm like, I think I was lied to. And then I saw it. I saw what he said, but then I saw the portrayal. I had originally believed that portrayal until I saw the truth. And then I just started to go down that rabbit hole. So for me, it was an evolution where I was like, I can't believe I'm being lied to by this group of people whose sole responsibility is to hold truth, to power. The key word there is truth to power, not your perception or your desires. And I just think that that, that, I mean, red-pilled me, I guess in a way”

👏👏👏Chamath Palihapitiya thought very little of President Trump when he came into office. But as time passes, he realizes how wrong his outlook was. The ultra-successful businessman and early executive at Facebook shows how a true free thinker can adjust their opinions. The whole All-In Pod also praised Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, a senior advisor to Trump and in charge of brokering peace between Israel and Palestine. Kushner's recent long-form interview on Lex Friedman's podcast brought praise. Chamath: "But Jared Kushner is thoughtful. He's smart. I was fed all these lies for years about how this guy was, like, moping around in the shadows and this and that, and it was all not true. David Sacks: "[Trump] was willing to meet with Kim Jong Un. He was willing to meet with Putin and Xi Jinping, and he avoided criticizing them personally. He didn't call them dictators. He talked about how smart they are. It's the art of the deal. Right. I mean, at the end of the day, he's looking to do business, and we need a little bit more of that. And I think this is why Jared Kushner was successful. He went in there with the mindset of a businessman. How do we find something that's beneficial to both sides?" Chamath: "I think that when Trump was elected, I was told that it was the end of the world, and that's what I thought. And I'd already underwritten him as an F, okay? And then, four years into the presidency, he was probably like a C in my mind. And then, as I get a little bit of distance away, I realized, no, hold on a second. This guy was like a B, B-plus. Like, he was pretty good. "But the further and further I get away from him and the less emotional I am, he did a pretty good job. He was a pretty good president."
