We should judge the education system by the core results and cost. Americans wouldn't mind spending the most if we had the best results by far and away. It's the mixed bag and high cost + social collusion that has most parents/tax payers upset.

My higher ups scold me when I tried to have my 11th graders read To Kill A Mockingbird They said they only need to read paragraphs to pass state testing Over half of my students have never read one book Not one I also got in trouble for teaching them cursive writing, at their request Supposedly it takes time away from the test 🙄

👏👏

He’s always spot on!!!’

Books i was required to read in high school cover to cover are now not allowed in schools anymore. When less reading began when my kids were in school and books were removed from reading list I made my kids read them anyway. Once they became too old for spankings I required book reports and I choose the book. Now all of my children are avided readers still. A few of their fav were Pride and Prejudice, To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Sawyer, Of Mice and Men and Lord of Rings.

I really like how he breaks it down.

We never read a text book in college from cover to cover. They may go through 4-5 chapters and next semester have to buy all new books.

I learned more not going to school in reading in the library than I ever did participating or sitting at school
