ChatGPT Voice on desktop is the greatest plan mode I’ve ever used. I start with a blurry idea. It asks sharp questions that help me discover what I actually want, draws the architecture as we talk, then spins up a Codex task to build it.

With all the buzz around the Codex App, OpenAI Developers quietly snuck out a new CLI update (0.94.0) as well. And boy is it an important update! Codex Plan mode is now officially released to the general audience! I am very excited about this one as it has a really strong prompt that is unlike any other plan mode I've personally used. Codex Plan mode doesn't necessarily just ask you 3 questions up front. It goes, collects context, asks questions, collects more context, asks more questions (sometimes), and then writes an incredibly high quality plan. It is my favorite implementation of plan mode thus far. It also comes with Codex's own version of "AskUserQuestion!" Although, it only works in Plan mode for now. It was a little too on the nose 💀 The prompt I used: "Based on everything you know about my fitness goals and limitations, build a 30-day workout plan I'll actually follow through on." No cookie-cutter influencer plan. No 5am boot camp nonsense. It pulled from what it actually knew about me: → I'm not a morning workout person, at all → I've dealt with specific injuries before → There are certain types of training I genuinely enjoy → And it called out the exact excuses I always fall back on Then it built something around my real life, not an ideal version of it. I took that into Gamma and turned it into a visual 30-day tracker that actually feels manageable. That's the thing about combining ChatGPT with Gamma Gamma : ChatGPT knows your patterns. Gamma gives them structure. Instead of advice you nod at and forget, or a screenshot buried in your camera roll — you get something you can actually work with. This is crazy, I can talk to OpenAI's realtime API, and it'll respond back with voice, and then help call Codex to help me code! Got curious about Codex and its realtime integration, and found codex's feature flag `realtime_conversation` integrated for the codex app-server. How it works: - launch codex app-server with realtime - connect a client to realtime through WebRTC voice connection - Codex app-server is also attached on the side - talk to realtime - realtime decides whether coding is needed, and responds back with events - Codex app-server takes these events and runs codex agent turns - codex writes code like your codex cli exp Keep in mind OpenAI hasn't released this officially, they're still actively working on it, I just created a fork. This is a completely new UX than the usual chat interface for agentic coding. For example, when the agent responds back in voice, it's actually faster for me to read the response, and I don't actually find voice response that useful unless it does so in the background. But image realtime working in the background, you can talk to it, realtime keeps track of the different agents working on your tasks and your status. More to come on demo side, i'll make a more polished version and include voice, but thought this was cool to share. You can see in the responses the distinction between my voice input, realtime response, and realtime calling Codex to do work!

I never use planning mode in Codex. GPT 5.5 loves to research, so I just have a conversation and reach a pseudo-plan in chat. Then, I let it implement, maybe with a /fork beforehand to keep that plan as a revisit-able point. Probably the biggest switch coming from Claude Code

Using ChatGPT as your personal translator With a simple base instruction like the one below. I can have ChatGPT endlessly speak more or less any language. Prompt: “You are now my personal translator and everything i say you should respond to in [Language] just the way that i said it. Have you understood your task?” ChatGPT with voice is amazing so far. There are so many use-cases for something like this. In the 48h I have had access, I’ve had well over 50 conversations. Ranging from coming up with activities for the kids, to the meaning of life. Using it as a translator is something I stumbled upon when exploring its language capabilities. What have you used it for?
