I worked in several restaurants. This absolutely happened (more often than you think), and is not exaggeration in any way. This was pre-cell phone era, and not sure if the threat of being caught on camera has prompted kitchens to behave better. I worked in one "fine restaurant" kitchen where one of the soufflé chefs had a grudge against a customer and took a small squirt in the sauté pan. A lot of folks in the kitchen are flawed people.

I don't eat at any sit down place unless there's at least an hour till close. Gives em time to cook, clean, and get the fuck out still on time.
