the entire time I have been on X I have been watching your videos and progress and I don't think I've ever seen a single one that didn't amaze me

i have no clue what Im doing but figured Id try to mimic conditions that would create something that resembles the Earth. I used a combo of hydrogen, oxygen gas, lava, water; along with a bit of heating and cooling After mixing elements together is there a way to see the resulting elements that get created from this soup?

@TroonApocalypse Yeah that is a feature I will add soon

iirc one of the reasons you get a pure explosion and not a leidenfrost-like effect from sodium + water is some charge or something that pulls the sodium deeper into the water, does this model that?

Фото профиля Grant Kot
Grant Kot4 месяцев назад

Oh so yeah I’m not properly simulating that Coulomb explosion thing. And my sim is incorrectly doing a bit of a leidenfrost effect from the products

I've always wanted to build a virtual chemistry lab.

It’s an incredible time to be a science graduate. In my era, we had to rely on diagrams and our imagination to understand these concepts.

how physically accurate is this?

Фото профиля Grant Kot
Grant Kot4 месяцев назад

Tbh, probably not very. Mostly just tweaking for looks in a realtime sandbox. I do try to conserve mass

Фото профиля kvick

Oh ok, its still super cool though!! I get very intimidated when it comes to building ever more realism into simulations because physics gets so crazy especially at the smaller atomic scales

Фото профиля Grant Kot
Grant Kot4 месяцев назад

Yeah I think this is why I build this sim in the open because there are people who know far more than me on the chemistry and even physics side. A couple people pointed out I’m not properly modeling the Coulomb explosion so I will try to introduce charge soon

interesting, im unfamiliar with that, I would imagine there are a lot of other quantum effects that would be difficult to model as well without a quantum computer

Is this like Kerbal Space Sim, but for science lab nerds instead of us space nerds?

Фото профиля Grant Kot

I want to have a lot of materials and reactions yes, but I’ll try to include some tools for structures as well so people can build rockets and other stuff

Фото профиля The OFF-GRIDiot

😅Hey that would be neat, you "could" set off a rocket, but you have to learn the chemical makeup of solid rocket fuel and the right way to "assemble" it so it doesn't go boom first. Force those lil' fkrs to learn.😂

If your obsidian notes graph doesn't look like this, you're clearly doing zettelkasten wrong

Are you aware of the singularity behaviour? after a certain amount of particles get squished into a tight enough space(1 tile?) it causes a collapse. I was able to gradually remove particles until it fell just below the threshold (about 90k particles) where it then explodes. Fun.

Yeah black holes are supported. It can be fun to form several even.

nice. what is the Red and what's the Greenish and what's the white?

Фото профиля Grant Kot
Grant Kot4 месяцев назад

The red is lava and where it meets the water there is some heat transfer producing basalt and steam. The materials have a gradient based on temperature to help visualize convection (water goes from blue to lighter greenish-blue). I think some of the white coming down is one of the reaction products, sodium hydroxide. I definitely need to add something to the cursor to better identify materials.
