We came to Springfield to deliver one message: tax the rich and fully fund our schools. Governor Pritzker and the Democratic supermajority must pass legislation to make billionaires pay their fair share so our students get the fully funded education they deserve. Special education teachers. Clinicians. Educators. We are stretched thin and our students are paying the price. No more tax breaks for billionaires. Prioritize our children. These are the funds that would ensure our students have the resources they need to thrive, like mental health supports, special education programs, safe passage, and more. Oregon has one of the shortest school years in the nation. Just over the river in Vancouver, the average K-12 student receives one year more of instructional time than students in our state. A recent poll showed that 80% of Oregonians support requiring local school districts to provide at least the national average of school days. Your kids deserve a world-class education, and on Day One I will work to increase classroom time and give teachers the resources they need so that all Oregon students and teachers can be successful.

Ontario's schools need more adults. We need more EAs and more educators in our schools to keep students safe and help them learn. Children in Grade 6 were in Kindergarten when the Ford government took office. EQAO scores are on their watch, and this government is failing our kids. That is why Ontario-Liberals are calling on the Ford government to invest $1 billion in new education funding so boards can hire the staff students rely on every day. Students should not have to pay the price for underfunding. It is time to give them the support they deserve.

Reform has dropped the act. They are openly Thatcherite now. The Conservatives are copying them, desperate to save their skins. That means lower taxes for the wealthy, financiers and corporations, deregulation, and cuts to services. The best way to reduce support for the authoritarian right is to stand with people against profiteers in water and energy, and give real security: fair bills, council homes and services that work. This video is my Budget reaction, setting out why Labour must move quickly to break with this failed model.

Aspira’s leadership says it is insolvent with no clear plan to keep its schools open through the end of the year. 570 students and their educators should not pay the price for Aspira’s financial mismanagement. Public dollars demand public accountability. If charter operators control millions in funding and valuable assets, they must use every tool available to protect students , not pass the crisis onto CPS and taxpayers, and abandon their student mid-year. CTU is demanding immediate emergency planning to ensure continuity and stability for Aspira families. Our students deserve better than chaos.
