Yesterday, educators, athletic directors, and librarians stood up one by one at the Board of Education meeting to describe exactly what the preliminary budget cuts will do to Chicago students. They will cut lead coach & mentor positions, eliminate high school Athletic Director roles, leave coaches without stipends they're owed, and shut down school libraries. We were loud and clear: CTU is calling on Governor Pritzker and Illinois lawmakers to convene a special session to pay the $2 billion owed to Chicago and fully fund schools statewide before these cuts hit classrooms this fall. 📢Our students deserve nothing less. Fully fund our schools!

We came to Springfield to deliver one message: tax the rich and fully fund our schools. Governor Pritzker and the Democratic supermajority must pass legislation to make billionaires pay their fair share so our students get the fully funded education they deserve. Special education teachers. Clinicians. Educators. We are stretched thin and our students are paying the price. No more tax breaks for billionaires. Prioritize our children. Tax the rich to fully fund our schools.

"The city council has two options: They can tax the rich or they can decimate services and tax working-class people." - Mayor Brandon Johnson 90% of Black and Latine voters support taxing ultra-wealthy corporations to protect our city. And Mayor Brandon Johnson's Protecting Chicago Budget does just that — it makes wealthy corporations pay their share, instead of raising taxes on working people. And it invests a historic $1 billion TIF surplus into our schools, communities, and people. When we invest in our people, instead of protecting the ultra-rich, we build the city our communities deserve. The choice is clear: Invest in people, not cuts. Tell city council to choose people over corporations. Vote YES on the Protecting Chicago Budget.

The veto session is over, and the state of Illinois still owes Illinois school districts nearly $5 Billion in undelivered funds. These are the funds that would ensure our students have the resources they need to thrive, like mental health supports, special education programs, safe passage, and more. As CTU and IFT president Stacy Davis Gates reminds us, the solution is simple: tax the ultra-wealthy corporations and fully fund our schools. Chicago has billionaires, Illinois has billionaires. They just received a historic tax cut from Trump. Governor Pritzker has the power to take action. Tax the billionaires. Fund our schools.

For too long, Chicago has been told to accept less. Less support. Less opportunity. Less investment in the students who need it most. But our students don't need another round of cuts, they need the fully funded public schools they've been promised. As CPS considers a budget built on layoffs and furloughs, school board president candidate and special education teacher Hilario Dominguez lays out a different vision: one that invests in universal pre-K, sustainable community schools, and the resources every student deserves. Governor Pritzker must call a special session and deliver the funding our students have been waiting for.

A stronger Canada starts with the people building it - and that means making post-secondary education more affordable. By extending student grants and increasing access to loans for the 2026–27 academic year, more Canadians will have the support they need to stay in school, build their skills, and step into the workforce. Investing in students means investing in the people who will keep our communities growing.

Sen. Warren on Linda McMahon: “She wants to end the Department of Education. That means bigger class sizes, fewer after-school programs, and cuts for kids with special needs. If she has the courage of her convictions, she should answer to parents, teachers, and the public.”

Oregon has one of the shortest school years in the nation. Just over the river in Vancouver, the average K-12 student receives one year more of instructional time than students in our state. A recent poll showed that 80% of Oregonians support requiring local school districts to provide at least the national average of school days. Your kids deserve a world-class education, and on Day One I will work to increase classroom time and give teachers the resources they need so that all Oregon students and teachers can be successful.

Ontario's schools need more adults. We need more EAs and more educators in our schools to keep students safe and help them learn. Children in Grade 6 were in Kindergarten when the Ford government took office. EQAO scores are on their watch, and this government is failing our kids. That is why Ontario-Liberals are calling on the Ford government to invest $1 billion in new education funding so boards can hire the staff students rely on every day. Students should not have to pay the price for underfunding. It is time to give them the support they deserve.

I went on hunger strike to keep our schools open and I became a teacher to help give our students a bright future—I know what it takes to fully fund our public schools. Now we need our partners to help us make sure our schools, teachers, and families have the fully-resourced school communities they deserve.

Reform has dropped the act. They are openly Thatcherite now. The Conservatives are copying them, desperate to save their skins. That means lower taxes for the wealthy, financiers and corporations, deregulation, and cuts to services. The best way to reduce support for the authoritarian right is to stand with people against profiteers in water and energy, and give real security: fair bills, council homes and services that work. This video is my Budget reaction, setting out why Labour must move quickly to break with this failed model.

Kevin Moore, a high school history teacher at George Washington High School, explains what’s at stake: His school is facing the potential loss of up to 28 positions, nearly one-third of the staff, and almost $2 million in cuts. And it’s completely avoidable. Across the 10th Ward, hundreds of school jobs could disappear, gutting classrooms and destabilizing school communities that already deserve more, not less. Ald. Peter Chico voted NO on the Protecting Chicago Budget. The Mayor’s budget proposal provides a historic $1 billion TIF surplus to invest in our schools, libraries and parks. Now, City Council needs to step up and fulfill its end of the bargain. Vote YES on the Protecting Chicago Budget. Our students cannot afford these cuts.

Chicago’s students are about to pay the price because a bloc of aldermen are opposingthe Protecting Chicago budget. Let’s be clear about what that means: A “no” vote is a voteagainst progress, against safety, andagainst the schools our communities rely on. And it’s a voteforthe billionaires and wealthy corporations who’ve profited while elected officials have drained resources from Black and brown neighborhoods for decades. Parents and community members across Chicago can already see the impact. CTU’s Protecting Chicago Schools Calculator shows exactly what each school stands to lose if their alder sides with wealthy corporations instead of our young people.( Alders have a choice: Protect Chicagoans from cuts and higher taxes on our families and invest in our young people, OR side with the wealthy billionaires and make the city more unaffordable. Chicago deserves leaders who stand with us, not with ultra-wealthy corporations.

The single biggest driver of our nation’s $40 billion debt is 25 years of Republican tax cuts. Because their trademark Big, Beautiful Bill gave tax cuts to billionaires and wealthy corporations, working-class Americans will have to make up for the $4.7 trillion added to our deficits. Balance the budget, put middle-class families first, and allow communities to invest in programs they need.

Parents MUST have the freedom to choose the best education pathway for their child. Texas children and parents deserve the time and effort it will take to bring expanded school choice to every Texas family.

House Republicans want to a pass a bill today to cut funding from Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and the VA — programs working Americans deserve and rely on. All so they can afford to give tax cuts to their billionaire friends. It’s bullshit.

Aspira’s leadership says it is insolvent with no clear plan to keep its schools open through the end of the year. 570 students and their educators should not pay the price for Aspira’s financial mismanagement. Public dollars demand public accountability. If charter operators control millions in funding and valuable assets, they must use every tool available to protect students , not pass the crisis onto CPS and taxpayers, and abandon their student mid-year. CTU is demanding immediate emergency planning to ensure continuity and stability for Aspira families. Our students deserve better than chaos.
