🇨🇳 China just tested a wind turbine floating 2,000 metres in the sky... and it worked. The S2000 is a helium-filled airship carrying turbines, tethered to the ground by cables that also transmit electricity. At 2,000 metres, winds are stronger and more consistent than at ground level. In recent tests over Sichuan, it generated 385 kWh which is enough to power around 1,500 homes for a day. Source: dw News

China is the world’s top producer of Wind turbines. Official figures put installed capacity at 640 Gigawatts in 2025 But that’s capacity. Wind doesn’t blow all year. What did the Wind Turbines actually generate? About 1,000 Terrawatt-Hours (TWh). That’s 1 Trillion Kilowatt-Hours (kWh) That’s about 22 times Nigeria’s entire output. Average 5,000MW over a year x 8,760 hours is 43.8 TWh What about the cost of building an onshore wind Turbine? A 5 Megawatt Wind Turbine costs about $4m - $5m according to IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) The Turbine alone isn’t enough. China completes installation of world's largest single-unit floating offshore wind turbine The world's largest single-unit 16-megawatt floating offshore wind turbine "Three Gorges Pilot" was installed on Saturday in waters off Yangjiang, south China's Guangdong Province. The 16-megawatt floating offshore wind turbine consists of three parts, namely a 16 mw ultra-large capacity wind turbine, a semi-submersible floating platform, and a new mooring system. With a maximum tip height exceeding 270 meters, the wind turbine rotor has a diameter of 252 meters, with a swept area equivalent to seven standard football fields. Unlike traditional fixed-bottom turbines that are physically connected to the seabed, it is installed on a semi-submersible floating platform measuring 80.82 meters long, 91 meters wide, and with a displacement of 24,100 tons. The platform is secured through nine suction anchors, combined with domestically produced high-performance polyester fiber cables and anchor chains for seabed mooring and positioning. "To deal with the harsh sea conditions, our team has developed and applied a new mooring system, a dynamic monitoring system, an active ballast system, and 66 kV dynamic submarine cables for the first time in China," said Pan Hongguan, an offshore wind power engineer from Guangdong Branch of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG). According to Pan, the new mooring system combines polyester cable and anchor chain, which is like adding a "spring" to the middle of the system, to deliver superior mechanical performance. The "Three Gorges Pilot" wind turbine previously completed its integrated assembly at Tieshan Port in Beihai of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It arrived at its target sea area located more than 70 kilometers off the coast of Yangjiang after a long-distance towed voyage across the Qiongzhou Strait which connects South China's island province of Hainan with Guangdong Province on the mainland. After being put into operation, the wind turbine is expected to generate approximately 44.65 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, enough to meet the annual electricity demand of 24,000 households.

ZLH🚀: yes, this is the motor of the wind turbine, located at the highest point of the turbine shaft. these are the blades. they look small now, but in reality, when I went to the wind turbine manufacturing plant, it was about 80 meters long. really huge. and the proportions might not be accurate. when we stood below it, it was incredibly impressive. it works like this: the wind comes from this direction and drives the blades to rotate. then the motor converts that kinetic energy into electrical energy. there are cables below that can directly transmit the electricity to a substation, where it's stepped up or down in voltage, and then sent to places on land where the electricity is used. that's how a wind turbine works. 👤: it's a very meaningful souvenir. When government discounts expire, Australia will be facing their highest electricity bills ever. This is despite claims that wind and solar are the cheapest forms of electricity. With the largest amount of wind and solar on the grid, electricity prices have never been higher - go figure. Australia is incredibly rich in resources and should be an electricity superpower. Instead, we have Minister Ayres and the once respected Commonwealth Scientific Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) who continue to destroy our country.
