China is really not the sort of Marxist communism you are thinking about. It is an autocracy with a ruling elite. It baffles me how quick some are to praise a strong executive government in China but disparage a strong President in the U.S. It’s typical of the sort of quick contradictory positions the left takes without thinking things through.

There are two major benefits building such a grand facility. Efficiency and profitability are not the priorities. This project surely increased the reported gdp. Then, those who were part of the project (not those did the hard labor) had his/her bank accounts greatly enriched.
