A newly identified mineral, named magnesio‑chang’e‑site (Ce), was discovered while studying lunar soil samples brought back to Earth by China’s Chang’e‑5 mission, as well as in a lunar meteorite found in the Taklamakan Desert in Xinjiang in 2024.
