A Chinese team has unveiled a robotic dog that sprinted into the "10-second club" of the 100-meter dash, marking a new technological advancement in robotics. The researchers behind this project, a collaboration between a humanoid innovation institute under Zhejiang University (ZJU) and Hangzhou-based startup Mirror Me, took cues from the joints and paws of animals like black panthers and jerboas to improve the robot's high-speed movement in terms of strength, flexibility, power, precision and fluidity. Its development commenced in 2018 and spanned six years, during which significant advancements were achieved through multiple innovative upgrades in both control algorithms and hardware structures. Now, the team has developed advanced high-power-density, high-load motor drivers, laying the foundation for the next generation of industrial quadruped robots and expects the new generation can sprint at 15 meters per second. To date, they have helped 18 missing children reunite with their families, including the real-life family behind the film Dearest. By leveraging technologies such as “global restoration” and “facial enhancement,” they’ve made the search process more efficient, lighting the path to reunions with the power of technology.
