China uses robots to de-ice power lines, keeping human workers safe. A de-icing robot clears ice from a power transmission line at 3,300 meters above sea level in Sichuan. The robot is remotely controlled from the ground, so workers don’t have to risk their lives high above the ground... show more

❄️ 3300m high in Liangshan, Sichuan: say hi to the cutest ice-busting pro! 🤖This solar-powered robot nixes ice from power lines, totally controlled from the ground (no risky climbs needed)! ⚡️ Who'd guess a plateau workhorse could be this charming? Tiny but tough, it's tech with zero chill (literally) and 100% vibes—love a machine that works hard AND looks cute! 😂 #TechInHighlands #DeicingRobot #SichuanTech #SolarPoweredHero #CoolAndCuteTech By Wang Xinyuan,Li Yue,Duan Yichen(intern) / China Youth Daily Source: People's Daily/Douyin

When lines ice up — like they did in southwestern Manitoba this week — we have a number of ways to clean it off. This is what ice melting looks like. We create a short, the line heats up, and the ice falls off. Crews in the icy southwest will be de-icing this weekend. Drive safe!

Current view from our spot on the cliffs in Princeville Kauai (~100 feet above sea level). Tons of traffic in and out of Hanalei. Everyone here heeding the tsunami warnings, stocking up on food and water, and getting to high ground. Stay safe.

Elon Musk Jesse Peltan China is still far behind the West. China bans workers from forming unions to protect their rights. That's one reason why these workers have to to work in the snowstorm, without a roof over their head, and why 'made in China' goods are cheap.

The machine that casually eats through 2,500 square meters of landmines for breakfast. The DOK-ING MV-10 ranks among the fastest heavy demining vehicles in operation, capable of clearing about 2,500 square meters per hour depending on terrain. At its front, a rotating flail lashes the ground with heavy chains, crushing or triggering surface mines. Behind it, a tiller churns the soil to neutralize deeper explosives the flail misses. This two-stage approach is the key to its speed. A robust diesel engine powers the system, while thick armor shields the vehicle from blasts. Remotely operated from a safe distance, it clears land methodically without putting human lives at risk.

In the future, it might just be humanoid robots doing the refueling!🤖⛽️ Sinopec plans to introduce humanoid robot workers across its gas stations. They will handle tasks like fueling, picking up items, restocking, and inspections, working alongside human staff, especially during peak holiday periods in China to ease service pressure. With more than 30,000 gas stations across the country (most of them equipped with convenience stores), this implies a deployment of at least 30,000 humanoid robots. The robot is a wheeled humanoid developed by Beijing-based company FIVEAGES.

A Himalayan mountain began collapsing from more than 5,000 meters above sea level. Seven minutes later, the catastrophe reached the valley below, Port Gyirong. This moment that should have been almost impossible to capture was caught on camera by a Chinese photographer active in Xizang and Xinjiang. His name is Heimu (黑沐). Just before the disaster, he happened to be climbing nearby, and in doing so, captured the very beginning of the catastrophe. According to his eyewitness account, it was not the entire glacier that moved first. The rock gave way first and the slope smoked. As the mountainside destabilized, it began tearing into the glacier above. Then ice, rock and debris poured together into the valley below. But what is truly chilling is the combination of height and time. The initial collapse occurred above 5,000 meters. Gyirong Port, by comparison, sits at only 1,800 meters above sea level. In other words, over a very short horizontal distance, the mass plunged through a vertical drop of more than 3,000 meters. And it covered that distance in only seven minutes. Rock, ice and mud accelerated under gravity, picking up more debris and water as they surged downhill. That may also explain why roads, buildings, bridges and parking areas that had been intact only minutes earlier were almost completely wiped from the landscape.

When will people realize that AI is not being developed to replace you at your job, nor to give you a high universal income, but to literally replace you in their doomsday bunkers so they can have their Golden Age after the Geophysical Event? Why would they waste time, money, and resources saving doctors, engineers, coders, workers, and guards — and risk being overthrown after the event — when they can preserve all human knowledge in the form of AI, and robots can serve as their workers, surgeons, and guards?

Teaching robots how to paint! 💅🏼 This painting robot, for example, mimics human movements with precision to handle repetitive, and tiring tasks. A special device memorizes points in 3D space, which are then sent to the robot's control. The result? A robot that, after a single demonstration, can perform a given action. Keep in mind that it's taught as 'fixed'. 👨🏻‍🔧 That is, it will not be able to react to an anomaly or changing environment. But ultimately, with fewer workers available and many avoiding tough, dirty jobs, robots are helping industries stay efficient and safe. ♻️ RT to help 1 robot find a new workplace!
