The Chinese government has announced that it is certifying mass production of AG600 large amphibious aircraft. The AG600 is produced by China’s state-owned AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China) and is capable of landing and taking off at sea. In addition to search and rescue and emergency response functions the aircraft have utility patrolling and deploying troops in disputed maritime regions.

Thus, the Pentagon intends to fill the gap in the complete absence of amphibious aircraft for carrying out logistical or search and rescue operations in the conditions of the Indo-Pacific region, including during possible military operations. It is particularly important to note China's efforts in this direction, which just half a year ago launched the serial production of the largest amphibious aircraft, the AG600. Currently, the US does not have a single amphibious aircraft in service. Previous such aircraft, such as the HU16 Albatross, were used during the Korean and Vietnam wars, but were decommissioned in the 1980s.
