The Iranian drone strike on a Bahraini desalination plant, and Iran’s claim that the U.S. targeted a similar facility on Qeshm Island, signals a dangerous new phase in the war. Because in the Gulf, desalination plants are essential for survival. Unlike most regions of the world, the Gulf has almost no natural freshwater. Rainfall is scarce, rivers are nonexistent, and groundwater reserves are limited and rapidly depleting. So Gulf states turned to the sea. Today, massive desalination plants pull salt from seawater and convert it into drinkable water for cities, industries, and agriculture. Without them, daily life across the region would collapse almost overnight. The Gulf Cooperation Council countries control roughly 60% of the world’s desalination capacity and produce about 40% of all desalinated water globally. More than 400 desalination plants operate across the region, quietly supplying the water that keeps cities running. In Kuwait, about 90% of drinking water comes from desalination. In Oman, it’s 86%. Even the United Arab Emirates, with one of the most advanced infrastructure systems on the planet, gets about 42% of its drinking water from the sea. That’s what makes attacks on these facilities so alarming. Unlike oil infrastructure, which affects markets and government revenue, desalination plants affect people immediately. Take out a refinery and the economy suffers. Take out a desalination plant and millions could lose access to drinking water. Energy infrastructure has always been part of regional conflict, but targeting water infrastructure raises the stakes dramatically.

Took just 8 months from start of project to 1st flight. 3min test flight, performance was beyond expectations > 400 kg thrust + Mach 4 cruising @ 20km altitude Next step is to strap 2 such engines on a flight vehicle for near space high speed test flight. Over past 2 days, 2 major news of near space high supersonic or hypersonic test flights out of China from 2 companies. All super young dev teams. Unbelievable stuff.

Likely to drive further cost savings Metals 3D printing is at frontier of Industry 4.0 manufacturing. As metals powder cost comes down, more & more smaller machineries and parts will be 3D printed.

While most Vietnam visitors into China are probably checking out Yunnan via train, this seem to be spreading to Shanghai also. Shanghai has long been China's 1st stop for many foreign visitors. A lot of Japanese, Korean & Russians. I wonder if Shanghai will become for ASEAN countries what Miami is for Latin American countries. Basically, a metropolis that not only shapes nearby areas but the entire region from cultural & social trends & such. If you have ever been to South America, you'd see that a lot of local elites have connections to Miami. They like to compare wealthy & nicer part of their cities to Miami. People w/ money buy homes in Miami. And business open their US branch in Brickell. If there is 1 city in China that could probably have that kind of magnetism for surrounding Asian population, that would be Shanghai. Shenzhen is more technologically advanced, but ppl are workaholics. Beijing is too political & far north. Chongqing is too inland & probably not as fashionable. Shanghai checks all the boxes.
