Why is there suddenly such an aggressive push against American data centers and AI infrastructure? After seeing a major spike in coordinated opposition campaigns around our Utah projects, we conducted a digital audit and traced a large amount of the activity back to an organization called Alliance for a Better Utah, which has been pushing misinformation throughout Box Elder County about our data center developments. What’s even more concerning is where the funding appears to originate. After reviewing IRS Form 990 filings and tracing the network behind it, the money appears tied to Chinese linked funding channels connected through an organization called Arabella. Think about the incentive, if China is racing to dominate AI and compute capacity, why wouldn’t they want to slow American infrastructure down?

Buried in it is Section 24220, which requires new vehicles to include technology that can detect driver impairment and disable the car. The stated goal is to prevent drunk driving, with systems that monitor blood alcohol levels and stop a vehicle from starting if you’re over the limit. It sounds reasonable at first. They’re only going to get bigger, use vastly more power, and require millions of tonnes of copper at a scale we simply do not have the capacity to mine yet… We looked at one Microsoft baby data center and found that it used 2,177 tonnes of copper. This was just one tiny data center. No one has found as much copper as the Ivanhoe group, but we cannot rest on our laurels. We must keep discovering new deposits, building new mines and producing more copper if we can hope to keep GDP growth at 2% and build a better world for our children and grandchildren… Our gratitude, as always, to BMO Metals and Mining in its 35th edition for providing a tier one platform to discuss what’s really needed.
