This scene between Michael Caine & Christian Bale has always stayed with me because of the stoicism Alfred imparts on Bruce & the way in which he turns the tables around on Bruce. Christian Bale who normally weighed around 80kg, had to reduce his weight to 54kg for his role in "The Machinist" (2004). He had to increase his weight to play Batman in "Batman Begins" (2005). To increase his weight, He was lifting really heavy weights and just stuffing so much into his mouth. His body was under so much pressure that he could feel it.
