Christopher Nolan: I think if you want something... to have a bit of bite, you’ve got the imagery to a better threat, even if it’s a miniature, even if it’s something very fake, but something real on camera. Christopher Nolan: I shoot on film because it’s the highest quality imaging format ever devised, particularly IMAX film, large-format film. Christopher Nolan says The Odyssey is a promise he made to himself at 16, watching a volcano documentary in a dome-screen IMAX in Chicago. Christopher Nolan: "Going to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago when I was 16 years old, seeing a documentary about volcanoes in the OmniMax format, and thinking... why on earth isn't Hollywood using this format? I always wanted to be a director. If I ever got the chance, could I shoot a film in this way?" Christopher Nolan: "I called my friends at IMAX and said, look... if ever we're going to make a film entirely on IMAX, this is The Odyssey. This is the one. Can you find a way to alleviate the limiting factor? The cameras are extremely loud." Christopher Nolan: "What they did is they came up with a way of blimping the camera... a high-tech box that silences it. The thing weighed about 300 pounds. But it let us, for the first time ever, get the quiet scenes, the dramatic scenes, and therefore do the whole film."

Um, you know, I like to say it was a very hard movie, but hard for all the right reasons. You know, it’s The Odyssey, it should be hard. Um… Jon Stewart: It shows up on screen. I mean, all of it shows up on screen. Christopher Nolan: Thank you. Jon Stewart: And someone was telling me that you actually completed it ahead of schedule, as you have with all of your movies, and under budget. Christopher Nolan: Yes. Jon Stewart: Never happens! What’s it like having to go to sleep at night knowing you were so fucking wrong? Face the music. Look in the mirror. Christopher Nolan just brushed you off his shoulder.

Christopher Nolan is all over my timeline & all I can think about is how badly I want to see The Odyssey. I read a Tweet earlier comparing it to Lawrence of Arabia. Christopher Nolan: "I had some very brave producer at some point had anonymously said of me, 'He's a cold guy who makes cold films,' years before, and that is sort of stuck on me for several projects." Insomnia is the only film Christopher Nolan & Al Pacino united on & I think it’s perhaps the most underrated movie of Nolan’s filmography. Yes- this is a slow burn, I get that. But it’s an intimate performance from Pacino with nuanced direction from Nolan. This film is good. 🎂

I really believe Christopher Nolan is going to win the Oscar for Best Director & Best Picture in back-to-back films. For Nolan to give us The Odyssey in the wake of Oppenheimer is beyond words. I just can’t believe it. That said, Nolan will have to overcome Dune 3, which might not be possible. But I put Nolan in the driver’s seat right now.
