A Wing And A Prayer Before Jump Doors: The Insane "Wing-Slide" Technique of the 1930s. Would you call a crab walk gait a functional neurological disorder? Not so fast. If you encounter someone walk with tiny, sideways shuffling steps, kinda like a crab, it could be a clue. In a striking case just published by Fraiman and colleagues, a crab walk-like helped to uncover a rare but important white matter brain disease called CSF1R-related leukoencephalopathy. Key Points: - A short-stepped laterally swaying crab-like gait may be an early sign of a higher-level gait disorder. - This disorder could originate from the brain’s motor planning centers, and not muscles or nerves. - These gait patterns may signal frontal lobe dysfunction, especially when strength, sensation and coordination remain intact. - When paired w/ behavioral symptoms and frontal white matter changes on MRI, this gait pattern may point to CSF1R-related leukoencephalopathy. - This syndrome is an underrecognized adult-onset leukodystrophy. My take: My mentor used to teach that a great neurologist always walked their patients to the examination room and in many cases he/she would clinch the diagnosis even before the door was shut and the vital signs collected. Here are 5 points that resonated w/ me about this case. 1- A strange walk might be a warning sign. Don't jump to a functional diagnosis if you see a sideways walk. 2- The brain can be the source of walking challenges even when the legs are strong. 3- White matter diseases can show up as a funny walk. No matter how many years it has been, I still love to make Mario Moonwalk every time I reach Super Mario Bros. World 4-2. As a kid, it was part of the neighborhood collective play pattern. Like blowing in cartridges and the Contra Code, it was one of those things that was simply “known.” Michael Jackson was at the height of his popularity, and most kids knew of the Moonwalk, which became legendary after he first performed it during Billie Jean at Motown 25. A neighborhood boy showed this to me one day in the late 80s playing it on Nintendo and we all thought it was so cool. Years later it’s still habit! Though familiar to many, I realize this might be new to some. To do it, enter World 4-2 small, make the cursed jump, then leave enough space at the left of the screen so that you can walk back under there after getting the hidden mushroom. Face left, then press right when the Mushroom reaches you to Moonwalk! Whether new to you or simply a fun reminder of a gaming staple of youth, I hope it gives you a smile today ❤️

🚨An ICE agent, in Palm Beach, threatened to arrest a U.S. citizen for standing in his own front yard. The video shows a man filming ICE agents surrounding and questioning a young man, which is happening directly in front of his home. While the man stands on his lawn, recording, an ICE agent walks onto the man’s property, points his finger at him, and orders him to move back 25 feet. The homeowner backs up and shouts: “This is MY PROPERTY!” And yet, the agent continues threatening him with arrest. For what exactly? Standing on his own lawn, while filming government agents operate in front of his driveway? Since when do Americans need permission from the federal government to stand in their own yard? The First Amendment protects the public’s right to observe and document government activity. Property rights don’t disappear because federal agents show up in your neighborhood. And if there was a legitimate safety concern requiring a “25-foot perimeter,” why was the agent able to simply turn around and walk away moments later? The Constitution doesn’t become optional when federal officers find it inconvenient.

The tracklisting for WAITING IN THE SKY (BEFORE THE STARMAN CAME TO EARTH) runs differently from the ZIGGY STARDUST album and features four songs that didn’t make the final album. On Side 1, in the place of ‘STARMAN’, one of the last three tracks recorded for the album in February 1972, is ‘ROUND AND ROUND’, a Chuck Berry cover. The track was finally released on a single as the B-side to ‘DRIVE-IN SATURDAY’ on 6th April, 1973. Initially, closing Side 1 of the album was Bowie's version of Jacques Brel’s ‘AMSTERDAM’, which would later appear as the B-side of ‘SORROW’ on 12th October, 1973. Side 2 of the 15th December, 1971 tracklisting features two long-time non-LP fan favourites, ‘HOLY HOLY’ and ‘VELVET GOLDMINE’. The former is a re-recording with The Spiders of David’s 1971 single. Again, this version of the track had to wait several years before surfacing as the B-side of ‘DIAMOND DOGS’ on 14th June, 1974. ‘VELVET GOLDMINE’ is considered by many to be a lost Ziggy era classic, one Bowie often referred to as ‘He’s A Goldmine’ or ‘She’s A Goldmine’ in his notebooks and interviews. The track was recorded during the Ziggy sessions but was not released until 26th September, 1975, alongside ‘CHANGES’ backing the re-released album version of ‘SPACE ODDITY’, which peaked at no. 1 in the U.K. singles chart in November 1975. The cover of WAITING IN THE SKY (BEFORE THE STARMAN CAME TO EARTH) features a photo of David taken at an early Ziggy Stardust period session by Brian Ward, and the two sides of the inner bags are the fronts of the two Trident Studios tape boxes. The album’s title comes from the lyrics of ‘STARMAN’, which, along with ‘ROCK ’N’ ROLL SUICIDE’ and ‘SUFFRAGETTE CITY’, had not yet been recorded when this variation of the album was compiled. WAITING IN THE SKY (BEFORE THE STARMAN CAME TO EARTH) was cut on a customised late Neumann VMS80 lathe with fully recapped electronics from 192kHz restored masters of the original Trident Studios master tapes, with no additional processing on transfer. The half-speed vinyl cut was by engineer John Webber at AIR Studios, London.
