My walk by the canal this evening and I thought you might be interested to see a lock. I realised that some of you might never have seen one and I know everyone is fascinated as to how they work. Locks are a way for boats to go up hill or downhill. Without them, there would be waterfalls and a narrowboat can’t do those. If I were sailing my boat from where I’m walking in this video, I’d need to open the paddles with my windlass to let all of the water out. Once the water was out of the lock, I could open one gate (a narrowboat exactly fits through just one gate) and sail into the lock. I’d then close the gate and walk to the other end of the lock as I do in this video. I’d open the paddles at these gates and the water would now flow into the lock and my boat would rise up as the lock filled with water. Once it was full, I’d open a gate and sail out. A very simple system, but very clever. P.S. I have employed a swan to carry my video camera for these videos, as the duck I first employed couldn’t handle the weight of the camera and kept crashing into the water. The swan is better but as you’ll see at the beginning of the video, he’s so big that he crashes straight through the tree branches. There is a lot more training required and he was told off and debriefed after this video was made.

Last month, I shared a bit here about how my 17-year-old son has a passion for video game development and has spent hundreds of hours over the last 9 months creating his first game for release. Well, I want to let you know that Nitro Turtles is now out! It's a party racing game (kind of like Mario Kart) and has 9 courses, a speedrun mode with online leaderboards, and split screen/online multiplayer. My husband and I played all 9 courses against each other last night and IT WAS SO FUN! I'm so proud of him for the accomplishment. He has a really demanding junior year schedule of AP/Dual Credit/Honors classes, has straight As, and somehow managed to develop this all on his own out of pure passion. He started teaching himself programming in 3rd grade and just developed his skills from there. Nitro Turtles in the culmination of all the subsequent years of self-driven learning. If you or your kids play computer games, I would love for you to check the game out on Steam!

I want to illustrate to leaders of any organization how difficult it is to break the spell of individuality when leading Americans meant to operate as a unit. I was teaching ROTC cadets in California years ago—smack dab in the epicenter of American individuality. I tried teaching tactics and skills to prepare them for Advanced Camp. But my words fell flat. They were completely absorbed with themselves. I'll admit, my annoyance turned into rage. So I turned to the only surefire method I knew to forge a unit—pain. In doing so, I broke every ROTC rule in place under then-MG Peggy Combs. She wanted us to coddle them into excellence. That doesn’t work. Anyone who's been in the Army more than 5 minutes knows that. I didn't care if I got fired for this. I had 6 hours of PT and 2 hours of lab per week. 8 hours total. For 3 weeks I took them out to a field and made them sprint, bear crawl, low crawl—whatever I felt like. And after every single individual rep, I asked one question: “Why do you want to be an officer in the Army?” And after every rep, for 3 weeks straight, I heard answers like: “I want to be the first man or woman to do X.” “I want to be the first in my family to do Y.” “I want to be better than everyone else.” “I want to prove I can do it.” Me me me me me. I daydreamed about them during every rep. Their memory made the anger intensify. Then finally, after one last rep, a cadet said: “I’m here for the Soldiers I’ll one day lead. For everyone to my left and right.” Or something more selfless to that effect. That was it. I walked off the field and dismissed them. I finally found them worthy to teach. I added the “Miracle” clip because I don’t have footage of my own experience getting my individuality broken. But that scene speaks to me. I’m from Winthrop, Massachusetts. I know the Eruzione family. So it felt right to add the video below. I’ve risked my career doing this kind of thing—turning up the heat to where it needed to be. Because I was taught, and still believe, war is binary. You win or lose. Live or die. How do you expect to destroy the individual without group suffering sometimes? You can’t make a good meal without heat. You can't make elite Soldiers without it either.

I want to illustrate to leaders of any organization how difficult it is to break the spell of individuality when leading Americans meant to operate as a unit. I was teaching ROTC cadets in California years ago—smack dab in the epicenter of American individuality. I tried teaching tactics and skills to prepare them for Advanced Camp. But my words fell flat. They were completely absorbed with themselves. I'll admit, my annoyance turned into rage. So I turned to the only surefire method I knew to forge a unit—pain. In doing so, I broke every ROTC rule in place under then-MG Peggy Combs. She wanted us to coddle them into excellence. That doesn’t work. Anyone who's been in the Army more than 5 minutes knows that. I didn't care if I got fired for this. I had 6 hours of PT and 2 hours of lab per week. 8 hours total. For 3 weeks I took them out to a field and made them sprint, bear crawl, low crawl—whatever I felt like. And after every single individual rep, I asked one question: “Why do you want to be an officer in the Army?” And after every rep, for 3 weeks straight, I heard answers like: “I want to be the first man or woman to do X.” “I want to be the first in my family to do Y.” “I want to be better than everyone else.” “I want to prove I can do it.” Me me me me me. Es un mundo precioso que yo reservaría para pilotos comerciales y privados con muchas horas de vuelo y experiencia. En mi caso había practicado este tipo de maniobras cientos de veces y nunca me ocurrió entrar en pérdida de esta forma tan violenta y caer como una piedra. In my case, I had practiced this type of maneuver hundreds of times and it never happened to me to stall in such a violent way and fall like a stone. I don’t know if it was due to a downdraft, a thermal, a sudden change in wind since we had very laminar wind... I don’t know. What I do know is that I will never fly again, even though I have my pilot’s license. This video also serves to silence the mouths that have no idea about aviation and write invented atrocities about the accident. God protect you as he protected us

Call me crazy, but I believe public servants should be able to impartially evaluate evidence, and act professionally. Sadly, too many resemble the man in this video. Yesterday, at the BC Ministry of Health, my friend and I distributed information on the Cass Review, the most thorough evidence review on childhood gender dysphoria to date. This Ministry employee claimed the Cass Review was "full of shit," I was full of shit, and told me to go fuck myself. Mentioning the Cass Review clearly enraged him. This raises concerns. Why does scientific evidence anger him? Should the public expect him to rationally evaluate evidence, even if it contradicts his beliefs? What emboldens a public servant to act so unprofessionally on record? If he behaves this way publicly, how might he treat colleagues privately who present conflicting evidence? His disagreement with me is fine. As a private citizen, he can tell me off. But public servants must control their emotions, act professionally, and impartially assess evidence. This can be hard. I know, I was a BC public servant for more than a decade. But if you can't do it, you need to find another job. BC citizens deserve a professional, impartial public service, and we must start demanding it. And to the man in the video: anytime you want to have more productive conversation, my DMs are open. Just see helplessness of these girls as a father like figure gets arrested in front of them over a charge that they're eyewitness of being FALSE The only mistake of All India Football Federation executive committee member & general secretary of Himachal Pradesh Football Association Deepak Sharma was that in authority of a head responsible for safety of women in his team, he questioned 2 female players who have recently joined the team on why they went out alone in Goa at 11pm in the night without informing any senior! These girls threatened not only Mr. Sharma but also their female coach on teaching them a lesson for daring to ask them this !!!
