Paul Clancy, R.I.P It is with tremendous sadness that we heard about the sad and untimely passing of our former double All-Ireland Senior Football winning player and Maigh Cuilinn clubman, Paul Clancy. Paul enjoyed a stellar sporting career with the Galway Senior Footballers. He tasted success five times in the Connacht Football championship in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2005. The crowning glory of his senior football career was the winning of the two All-Ireland Senior Football titles with Galway in 1998 and 2001; ending a 32-year famine to return the Sam Maguire Cup to the Tribesmen. As a leader and driving force in his club Cumann Peile Mhaigh Cuilinn, Paul served as Club Chairperson from 2019-2023. During this era, Maigh Cuilinn claimed their first ever Galway Senior Club Football championship title in 2022, this was followed with further success when Maigh Cuilinn added Galway and Connacht senior football titles in 2022. One of his greatest club days as a player was when Maigh Cuilinn captured the All-Ireland Intermediate Football title in 2008. Over the past few years, Paul has contributed to numerous coaching roles. He served as selector with the Galway Senior Football team under Alan Mulholland, the Galway All-Ireland-winning U21 Football team and as a selector with the Laois Senior Football team under Justin McNulty. He has also provided guidance and coaching expertise to several club teams and colleges' football teams. Paul was always readily available to step in and help others on and off the field of play and we are truly indebted to him for his wonderful contribution to the GAA over the past few years. Galway GAA extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Johanna, children Ellen and Finn, his mother Mary, brother Gearóid, sisters Linda & Ailish, the extended Clancy family, friends, former teammates and the Maigh Cuilinn club community. Works are progressing at the spectacular Baldoyle Community Centre and Racecourse Park Carpark. Completely funded by Fingal County Council through its Community Development & Parks & Green Infrastructure Departments. When constructed, the Baldoyle Community Centre will prioritise sustainability and accessibility and will have a green roof and rain-garden to promote biodiversity and ecology. The circular design will minimise visual disruption to the surrounding area and there will be ample bike parking to encourage the use of sustainable transport. There will also be accessible parking and electric vehicle charging points. The central sports hall will have three courts and the overall complex will have four multi-purpose community rooms as well as externally accessible sports rooms for use by the likes of Baldoyle United FC, Na Dubh Ghall GAA Club and Suttonians Rugby Football Club who use pitches in Racecourse Park. 🕯️Remembering Michael Coleman, R.I.P 🕯️ Galway GAA are deeply saddened at the sudden and untimely passing of the former Galway Hurling Captain Michael Coleman of the Abbeyknockmoy HC Club. Michael represented Galway with distinction at Minor, Intermediate and Senior levels. He won an All-Ireland Under 21 Hurling title with Galway in 1983. He went on to play a starring role at midfield when Galway retained the All-Ireland Senior title against Tipperary in 1988. In an Intercounty career spanning over 10 years, Michael also won three National League Titles including captaining the winning Galway team in 1996. His contribution on the National stage was recognised by his selection on three All-Star hurling teams in 1989, 1990 and 1995. Michael also represented University College Galway in the Fitzgibbon Cup as well as being the star of the St. Jarlath's College team that narrowly lost the Connacht Senior B Post Primary Hurling Final in 1981. Michael took great pride in his club and was an important part of the Abbeyknockmoy team which won the Galway Senior Hurling Championship in 1988. When his playing days were over his commitment to the club was unwavering: serving as mentor, coach and officer over the years. Michael was also active within Báireoirí Na Gaillimhe, a group consisting of former Galway hurlers. Michael was coach with the Leitrim Senior Hurlers when they claimed the Lory Meagher Cup in 2019. Outside of the GAA, Michael was a committed community activist involving himself in many activities within the locality. He will be sorely missed by the Galway GAA community. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his wife Mary, daughter Sinead and son Dara, his extended family, the Abbeyknockmoy Hurling club and community at this incredibly difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis Funeral arrangements as follows: Grant me O Lord, a hurler’s skill, With strength of arm and speed of limb Unerring eye for the flying ball And courage to match whate’er befall May my stroke be steady, and my aim be true My actions manly and my misses few No matter what way the game may go May I rest in friendship with every foe When the final whistle for me has blown And I stand at last before God’s judgement throne May the great referee when he calls my name Say, you hurled like a man; you played the game.

🙏 ENCOURAGING UPDATE: Port St. Lucie Sgt. Erick Levasseur is "out of the woods" PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — The Port St. Lucie Police Department gave some encouraging updates Thursday on the condition of a police sergeant shot while on duty Monday night. Sgt. Erick Levasseur, a 27-year veteran of the agency, was shot twice in the face during a gunfight with an armed suspect in the 11000 block of Southwest Lake Park Drive. Police Chief Leo Niemczyk said Thursday that Levasseur, 55, was flown to an undisclosed medical center to have surgery on both of his eyes. Police said on Tuesday that the injured sergeant had his jaw wired shut for recovery and received a tracheostomy to keep his airway secure following the surgery. Doctors said there was shrapnel in LeVasseur's retina, which required a special team of expert surgeons, and was also placed in a medically induced coma. Niemczyk said Thursday that Levasseur had surgery on his eyes Wednesday night to remove shrapnel. The chief said they anticipated that he would be transferred "within the next two days" to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce as he continues to recover from his wounds. "I will say that he is spending more time right now not sedated, and he is aware and alert and writing notes and making jokes to his wife and coworkers, so our spirits are heavily lifting," Niemczyk said. The police chief said they anticipate that Levasseur would make a "very strong recovery" but were still "guarded and careful." "We're not aware of the level of his eye function, but he is a very strong man with a very strong will," Niemczyk said. "We feel he's out of the woods." At Thursday's news conference, the police chief thanked the community and fellow law enforcement for their "overwhelming" support this week. "It's lifted the spirits of the officers within the organization and made this endeavor a little bit more comfortable for us," Niemczyk said. The police chief said it's unclear when Levasseur might be able to return to the police force, but they were "absolutely hopeful" that he would be able to.
