The vaccine for whooping cough is a Toxoid Vaccine. It does not prevent you from contracting the pathogen (a bacteria). It stops the Toxin produced from injuring you. You can still spread the pathogen if vaccinated.

Data from the National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System however shows that whooping cough notifications peaked in 2024 at around 57,000 cases and fell to approximately 25,000 in 2025, indicating the peak has already passed.
