💢 REPORT — Renewed sectarian clashes have erupted outside Sweida, the Druze stronghold in southern Syria, as Bedouin tribal fighters and Druze militias battle for control. Sky News’ Alex Crawford shared video of intense fighting on Instagram four hours ago. She reports that fighting has continued all day, with homes and businesses torched, looting widespread, and a local hospital treating 600 injured over the past four days—around 50 killed today alone. ➤ About 200 Bedouin fighters armed with machine guns and shells clashed with Druze gunmen at the city’s edge, according to AFP. Anadolu Agency reports that battles are ongoing along Sweida’s western and northern fronts. ➤ Anadolu’s correspondent says Syrian government forces withdrew after reaching an agreement with local factions—but fighting resumed after a faction led by Druze leader Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri rejected the deal and began forcibly displacing Bedouin Arabs. After overnight clashes, al-Hijri’s fighters retreated toward the city center by midday, then launched a counterattack, advancing roughly 2.5 miles along Sweida’s northern and western outskirts. Drones and snipers have played a key role in the Druze assault. ➤ At 3 p.m. local time, Bedouin forces reportedly launched a renewed assault on al-Hijri’s positions in the western part of the city. ➤ Around 80,000 people have been displaced, infrastructure is collapsing, and aid workers are unable to reach the wounded as the violence worsens. ➤ Israel has reportedly said it will refrain from striking Syrian forces for 48 hours, granting them limited access to Sweida to restore order—after Israeli airstrikes and the stoking of tensions played no small part in escalating the conflict. 🎥: Sky’s Crawford noted there was no sign of Syrian government forces in the area, as fighting continues despite a ceasefire agreement reached yesterday.
