Claude will ask these questions most during plan mode, but it can ask them anywhere. To get Claude to ask more questions in general, add that guidance to your or when prompting.

This is the first feature I've shipped to Claude Code and a lot of love went into it, I hope you enjoy!

@trq212 this is brilliant! I was just wishing yesterday that Claude Code had more dynamic options for continuing after a planning session! Really excited to try this out. In your do you just tell it to ask more questions?

@unpwn1 yeah that's right! or in your prompt

Soooo did it make any mistakes??

Used it today a bit and it felt excessive. it used to offer options before but in a nice structured and concise way. it was also almost always recommending the best option to implement I could just tell him to continue with. Frankly feels like an overkill now. Can I disable it?

whoa, love this! does claude ask questions once only when planning or can i have it continually ask questions as it needs clarification even during execution?

Thariq's profile picture
Thariq1 year ago

it can do it continually too! it's not super prompted to do that right now, I was a bit conservative with the prompting, but you can prompt it do it more in your Claude MD

Would it not have done the same thing before, if I had ask me questions in the me file

Thariq's profile picture
Thariq1 year ago

it would have asked you questions but without the multiple choice UI

Interactive questions from Claude? Finally, AI that admits it’s confused.

you can actually have a system prompt for it, i mean it is cool that claude has it, but you could've had it way way back

Thariq's profile picture

it's a new UI component, not just a prompt

Andrey's profile picture

i get it, just saying that you can systematically have it before the component released, it would've worked the same

this was a nice surprise today, was polluting context too much by continuously rejecting Claude's plan just to give it feedback on open questions thanks for working on it!

This is top-shelf TUI UX @trq212, well done!

lol, just a few days ago i implemented PromptUser which opens the query in an editor and let's write inline responses 😅 i feel that's a good middle way between rigid multiple choice and text. bonus: it can replace user messages completely, so the whole session becomes one assistant turn with all thinking blocks preserved.

Any possibility of not just asking additional questions as you’ve mentioned in but completely taking control of that UI to show our own options and flows?

This is really nice. I’ve been promoting Claude to ask if any doubt, so this fills the gap just perfectly 👨🏻‍🍳

This came up for me earlier for the first time - super cool how many new ux patterns can be created for using a CLI agent!

Hi @trq212 how does this get exposed to the hooks? For the ExitPlanMode PreToolUse, in what structure should the response go back to claude so that it understands that the user has answered the questions? Is this documented anywhere?
