Interesting theory but i don't think so. I can see people still in the frames, it looks like they just cleared out after Bruce was thrown into the car, just to get out of the way of the fight.

The scene serves an important function, it makes the audience think Cliff would be up to the task of fighting the Manson loonies at the end of the movie.

The way the car deforms when he throws him is hilarious

Cliff never actually defeated Bruce Lee, because he's a ficitonal character in a FICTiONAL MOVIE.

BS. Cliff whooped Bruce Lee. If Kung Fu actually worked in a fight…they’d be using it in UFC…and no one does.

Bro, Bruce Lee was 5'8" and weighed 140 pounds. The idea that he's going to win a fight against a 200 pound trained fighter is just not realistic. Weight classes exist for a reason. Bruce Lee never competed in any organized professional combat competition of any kind.

It’s an alternate Tarantino universe: Sharon Tate lives, Hitler is gunned down, and WWII ends in a burning cinema, and this Bruce Lee gets his ass kicked.

At least not as one sided as he recalls.I noticed the huge dent in the car. Later he throws a guy into a car and no dent at all. I like the “how he remembers it theory.

There’s a person’s legs in the frame as he hits the car. And given the ending fight scene safe to say Booth is a badass. Most likely just editing error.

I always believed it was a plot device. How do you establish Cliff Booth as a formidable fighter? You have him go toe to toe with someone considered the best. Going forward you never question whether or not he can handle himself in a fight.

If Bruce Lee were still alive, he would have loved it, and even helped choreographed it. The man was a filmmaker, not just a martial artist.

@TheMafiaPoint The actor playing Bruce Lee really sold it. I always laugh at his “that guy??” reaction when he’s told Cliff killed his wife

The reason the scene exist is show that cliff is a competent fighter so the fight scene in the climax is more believable to the audience.

This is the worst take ive ever read in years of people trying to overanalyze this movie movie.

In the book he thrashed Bruce Lee and said if he ever ran into again in the streets he’d kill him with his bare hands.

Если бы он не побил Брюса Ли, его бы не уволили, и тогда ломается весь сюжет.

The move out of the way. This is based on true events. In the true story though, these two are friends who trained together after meeting. The person "Cliff" is representing was "the father of grappling". He was an early expert in Judo if I remember correctly.

The fight never really settled. Tarantino has said that too. Cliff takes advantage of Bruce Doing the Same Move twice. The third “round” gets prevented, but Bruce would likely have switched Move.

Never understood the backlash. Its just saying he’s a trained green beret who can go toe to toe with the best of them and its not even really the best, just cultures idea of the best at the time only so we believe the end, when he goes toe to toe with the cultures idea of evil

Tarantino talks about the scene on Rogans podcast. He doesn’t mention your theory & instead justifies cliff beating Bruce by tricking him & says cliff in a real fight to the death beats Bruce Lee

That's the beauty of Tarantino's storytelling. He rarely gives a definitive answer, so scenes like this become conversations instead of just flashbacks. 🎬

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Tarantino’s cinema, it’s that this scene really happened and that it was meant to prepare the audience for the final scene. Besides, when he throws Bruce Lee into the car, the people are still there. After that, they’re gone. They probably+

The book omits the Bruce Lee fight entirely, instead framing Cliff Booth as a violent sociopath paralleling Charles Manson. In the real world, on the set of Green Hornet, Gene LeBell used grappling to expose limitations in Lee's striking style, rather than Cliff's embellished memory of dominance, aligning with Booth's self-mythologizing character. Although Cliff really was a violent sociopath and capable combat veteran, he just so happened to be sociopath that Tarantino is imagining "if only" could've saved the Hollywood he loved.

I thought the whole scene was a daydream while he’s on the roof.
