CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has been using every ploy to derail the #BharatJodoNyayYatra right from day 1, whether by using his goons, Assam Police or administration. Tearing off posters, banners, hoardings & finally barricading the Yatra down at Batadraba. While a roadshow was allowed when Jagat Prakash Nadda Ji...

#WATCH | Guwahati | On reports of resignation of former Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah from Congress, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma says, "Bhupen Borah was the last Hindu leader in the Assam Congress party who did not occupy the post of MLA or minister. His resignation carries a symbolic message that in Congress, no one from a normal family can prosper. He has accused Congress of appeasement politics. I welcome the resignation. However, he has not contacted us for any joining. Tomorrow evening I will visit his house. Three years ago, we were ready to welcome Bhupen Borah and give him a safe seat." "Congress's position in Assam is terrible. Three observers have come here for the selection of candidates. They have been assigned an MLA from the minority community. The situation is really grim. In many district offices of Congress in Assam, meetings begin with a religious prayer from a particular community. The Congress in Assam is changing fast. People are noticing it. Bhupen Borah's resignation carries a symbolic message that Congress has lost its last Hindu leader." "For anyone to join the BJP, we need to do a lot of calibration within the party, as we don't have vacancies. All the seats where a Hindu, Indian or Indian Muslim can win are filled. I can predict that people will resign from Congress, whether or not they join the BJP...After Gaurav Gogoi's Pakistan link, a lot of Hindu Congress leaders are joining the BJP at the grassroots. 4-5 MLA will also join (10-15 days later), but we are not encouraging them to do so now as there is a Rajya Sabha election pending..."

VIDEO | Delhi: Union Minister JP Nadda (Jagat Prakash Nadda) says, "Today, the entire country is once again witnessing Rahul Gandhi's cheap and diversionary politics. Everyone saw the protest he staged outside the Sansad Marg police station today. Rahul Gandhi's protest today is neither for the students nor for justice. It is a symbol of the Congress party's political frustration and Rahul Gandhi's hunger for media attention." He adds, "The entire country knows that the Supreme Court has already taken cognisance of the July 20 incident. A five-member high-powered committee headed by a former judge has also been constituted to investigate the matter. When the country's highest court is already looking into the matter, what does Rahul Gandhi want to prove by sitting outside a police station in front of the cameras today? Does the Leader of the Opposition have no faith in the country's judiciary? The truth is that Rahul Gandhi is staging this camera-driven drama to remain in the headlines. When Rahul Gandhi reached the DCP office in Sansad Marg today, he was clearly informed that the Delhi Police Crime Branch was already conducting an intensive investigation into all the cases related to July 20. The DCP also informed and assured him that the points he had raised had been forwarded to the Crime Branch, which is already investigating the matter. Despite this clarification from the administration, sitting on a protest shows Rahul Gandhi's stubbornness and frustration. This makes it clear that his objective is neither to seek justice nor to ensure an investigation, but simply to create a ruckus and challenge law and order." (Full video available on PTI Videos -

A suspicious death in Andhra Pradesh's Pileru town has taken a dramatic turn after CCTV footage and other evidence reportedly led police to suspect that a 47-year-old man was murdered at his home and his body later dumped on the Tirupati highway. The man who died has been identified as Subrahmanyam, a resident of Dish Colony in Pileru. His body was found with bleeding injuries on the highway on Saturday. Locals initially suspected that he had been knocked down by an unidentified vehicle. The case took a new turn after Subrahmanyam's father, Krishnaiah, raised suspicions about his daughter-in-law, Umadevi, who told police that he could not contact his son, daughter-in-law or grandson. When he reached their house, it was locked and both Umadevi and her son Lohith were reportedly missing. Police subsequently examined the house and the route leading to the highway. Investigators have found bloodstains and began analysing CCTV footage from the area, which have provided important clues about the movement of a two-wheeler and the transportation of the body. Pileru DSP Krishna Mohan said preliminary investigation found frequent disputes between the couple. The police officer added that the man's father had also alleged that Umadevi was involved in an extramarital relationship and that police were investigating that angle. Based on the statement, police are also examining whether the alleged relationship could have provided a motive for the killing and whether anyone else assisted in moving and disposing of the body. Umadevi and Lohith have been detained and questioned, while investigators are working to establish the exact sequence of events and cause of death or whether it was a planned murder. The police are investigating whether the body was deliberately placed on the highway to make the death appear like a road accident.

A security guard allegedly restrained a 22-year-old student using a wire around her neck and raped her on the terrace of a society in Jodhpur late on Saturday night. Anandnagar police said the accused, Dharm Singh, 27, a native of Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, was arrested from Hebatpur early on Sunday. He had been deployed at the society only six days ago. The woman, studying interior design in the city, was a paying guest in a flat in the society, and was on the terrace for a walk. The accused allegedly approached her with the intention of having sexual relations. When she refused, he allegedly assaulted her, restrained her with a wire around the neck and raped her. Police said the assault lasted nearly an hour. The wire prevented her from shouting for help. After he fled, taking her phone and locking her out on the terrace, she raised an alarm and was rescued by residents living on the floors below. She was taken to a hospital and police were informed. Sector 1 JCP Neeraj Badgujar said CCTV footage shows him taking the lift to the terrace around the time of the incident. Police said the accused had been deployed at the society for only about six days. He had worked for different security agencies for the past four years. DCP, Zone-7, Shivam Verma said while the woman's medical condition is stable, she is under severe trauma. "She has been in the city for around two years for studies," said Verma, adding that she tried to scream, but the accused had overpowered her and tried to strangle her with the wire. Police will next record her statement and probe if the guard knew of her routine. The security agency will also be questioned about his registration.
