On the eve of Teachers' Day, I paid my heartfelt tribute today to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan at Dhanadhanya Auditorium. I also extended my sincere respect to all the teachers and educators who have illuminated our lives with knowledge for generations. I am proud to have acknowledged the extraordinary contributions of 73 teachers in the field of education in Bengal at this grand event by presenting them with the 'Siksha Ratna' award. Additionally, 12 schools in the State were honoured as 'Sera Vidyalaya' for their overall excellence in academics and sports. Today, we also honoured 387 meritorious students who secured a place in the merit lists of this year's Madhyamik, Higher Secondary, Alim, Fazil, High-Madrasah, ICSE, ISC, CBSE (Class 10 and 12), Joint Entrance, and Vocational examinations. This included meritorious tribal and Scheduled Caste students, who were also felicitated. I once again extend my best wishes to all of them. Our 'Ma-Mati-Manush' government has introduced various scholarships and other benefits so that the students of Bengal don't have to worry about their education. 93 lakh girls are now part of the. ‘Kanyashree’ program. We have provided approximately Rs. 16,000 crore to these girls under this programme. More than 1.25 crore scholarships have been given to tribal and scheduled caste students under ‘Shikkhashree’ scheme. Under 'Aikyashree' and other minority scholarships, approximately 4.56 crore scholarships have been provided to minority students at a cost of Rs. 9,747 cr. About 40,000 minority students have also received Rs. 316 crore in educational loans. 6.65 lakh scholarships have been given to OBC students under the ‘Medhashree’ program. 36.55 lakh students have received Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship. 53 lakh students have received smartphones under 'Taruner Swapna' at a cost of Rs. 5,300 crore. We have already distributed more than 1.38 crore bicycles under ‘Sabooj Sathi’ with a total cost of approximately Rs. 4,730 crore. The distribution of bicycles has started this year as well, and an additional 12.50 lakh students will receive them at a cost of Rs. 525 crore. Approximately Rs. 10,000 crore has been spent to provide students with free textbooks, school uniforms, school bags, and shoes. We have seen the benefits of our work. The dropout rate has significantly decreased, from the primary to the higher secondary levels. In 2011, the dropout rate at the higher secondary level was 17.48%, which has now dropped to 3.30%. Today, I also unveiled the book, 'The Gems of Bengal, 2025', a compilation of the life stories and aspirations of the State's meritorious students. This day has become more memorable for me for a very personal reason, also. I once had the opportunity to be a part of the noble profession of teaching. From 1975 to 1978, for three years, I taught at Manmatha Nath Nandan Boys and Girls School (now known as Bhawanipur Modern School). Today, the school's headmistress, Dr. Srilata De, and one of the members of the school's management committee, Mr. Biswanath Basu, honoured me as a former teacher. This recognition brings me great pride and joy. Finally, I would like to tell my young students: apart from being good at your studies, you must become good human beings as well. You must work for the betterment of the nation, for the people, and for Bengal. Remember, true intelligence builds society. All teachers of Bengal are our pride. I offer my humble respect and best wishes to all these architects of human beings on the eve of Teachers' Day. Jai Hind. Jai Bangla.

THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX | How to solve Kerala’s train travel problem once and for all with ₹150 crore? 🧵 In 2012, the Oomen Chandy government came up with a plan to build a high-speed rail corridor from Mangalore to Trivandrum. The estimated cost was around ₹1.18 lakh crore. It was planned to be funded through a Japanese loan from JICA. The project was opposed by the then opposition parties. The project was eventually dropped. In 2020, the present Left government under Pinarayi Vijayan brought back the high-speed rail project, named SilverLine, with a cost estimate of ₹64,000 crore. These numbers were rejected by NITI Aayog, which estimated the cost at around ₹1.2 lakh crore. There were strong public protests against forceful land acquisition, and the project was dropped by the government in 2022. We also strongly opposed it, as our estimate was that the final cost would easily cross ₹1.5 lakh crore, ticket prices would go up to around ₹6,000 to make it viable, and there would not be enough ridership. Now it is BJP’s turn. They opposed both earlier projects and have now come up with a new proposal using DMRC’s former chairman, Padma Vibhushan Dr. E. Sreedharan, who later joined BJP. This high-speed rail proposal, unlike SilverLine, is 90% elevated and ends at Kannur instead of Kasargod or Mangalore. The estimated cost is around ₹200 crore per kilometre, with an overall cost of more than ₹80,000 crore. Fair enough. However, the estimate of ₹200 crore per kilometre looks like an underestimate when we look at the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train. That project started with a cost of ₹216 crore per kilometre and has now reached ₹393 crore per kilometre, even though it is only half completed. By the time it is finished, the cost could touch ₹500 crore per kilometre, if not more. Leaving these big and fancy projects aside, let us come back to the core problem and look at it differently. Take a close look at this video. This shows the weekly train schedule from Kannur towards the south. If you observe carefully, the green-coloured trains are those that run within Kerala, while the red ones are outstation trains that either terminate at stations in Kerala or pass through the state. What does this tell us? (1/8)

West Bengal has never been ignored by this government. In fact, it is the TMC government that is hurting the growth of the people of West Bengal. Harit Maharashtra, Samruddha Maharashtra leads Gadchiroli's green turn! Planted a sapling in Gadchiroli today, marking the launch of 'Harit Maharashtra, Samruddha Maharashtra', A campaign to plant 1 crore trees in the district. This is more than a plantation drive; it’s a commitment to preserving nature while driving development rooted in sustainability. Gadchiroli, with its rich forest cover, plays a key role in maintaining Maharashtra’s ecological balance. Between 2014 and 2019, 50 crore trees were planted across the State. As per the 2019 Green Cover Report by the Central Government, Maharashtra was the only State to record an actual increase in forest cover, a result of collective effort and strong public participation. Building on that success, 11 crore trees will be planted this year and 25 crore next year. In Gadchiroli, 40 lakh saplings are being planted this year and 60 lakh more next year. Saplings have been sourced from Rajahmundry and local nurseries are being nurtured to grow saplings of the same strength and standard, rooted in the region and ready for the future. Each tree will be geo-tagged and tracked, and officers have come forward to adopt saplings, turning this into a people-led movement to make Gadchiroli the greenest district. Alongside this, a meaningful step toward social inclusion was taken today as 23 youth from Naxal-affected families were directly recruited into the police force. 2 of them received their appointment letters during the programme, serving as powerful symbols of trust regained, transformation embraced and new beginnings forged Gadchiroli is moving ahead. Villages have rejected Maoism and embraced peace, the Constitution, and democracy. The path to violence leads nowhere; the path to growth is open to all. This is a journey rooted in harmony, where growth meets greenery, and every step forward carries dignity, opportunity, and inclusion for all. We had a detailed and fruitful discussion on the prevailing situation in Karnataka. The Honourable Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ji, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi ji, Karnataka CM, and KPCC President, along with the In-charge General Secretary, all met together and discussed the issues in detail. One of the topics we discussed was the caste census, which the Karnataka government is set to discuss in a special cabinet meeting on the 12th. The Congress party's stance is that while they agree in principle with the Karnataka government's approach to the caste census, there are apprehensions from some sections of the communities regarding the counting process. Since the caste census data is about 10 years old, the party suggested that the CM consider a re-enumeration process within a stipulated timeframe, such as 60-80 days. The CM will provide more details on this. We also discussed the current political situation, including the unfortunate tragic incident in Bengaluru. The CM and PCC President briefed the leadership on the incidents and the actions taken by the government afterward. We are deeply concerned about every human life and, as a party, we value human life greatly. Unfortunately, an incident occurred, and the Government of Karnataka has already ordered a judicial inquiry to determine exactly what happened. The party clearly views that there should be a clear-cut, pro-people attitude on this issue. The central government's attitude of completely neglecting Karnataka's plan allocation is totally unacceptable. They are marginalizing Karnataka, which is an injustice to its people today. The Modi government's actions towards a state like Karnataka are not acceptable. We discussed these issues at length. : General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal ji

Coming to Cooch Behar brings with it a renewed sense of purpose drawn from the affection, dignity, and unshakeable resolve of its people. Before addressing the public meeting at Ras Mela Ground, I spent time with local folk artists and paid my respects at the feet of Roy Saheb Thakur Panchanan Barma, social reformer, educationist, and the moral anchor of the Rajbanshi community. I did not go to Cooch Behar to ask for votes. I went to confront manufactured fear, because fear is the only tool left to the BJP. Unable to defeat Bengal democratically, they have now resorted to punishing our people. Funds to the tune of ₹2 lakh crore, under various Central schemes like MGNREGA, Awas Yojana, Gram Sadak Yojana, and Jal Jeevan Mission, have been deliberately blocked out of political vindictiveness. Even after clear directions from the High Court and the Supreme Court, the Central Government continues to impose restrictive conditions to deny employment to our rural poor. We will not accept policies that are anti-worker, anti-poor, and anti-Bengal. When MGNREGA was choked, we launched Karmashree from our own funds, generating 104.58 crore man-days of work for over 78.31 lakh job card holders, at an expenditure of ₹20,776 crore. We launched Banglar Bari, ensuring a roof over the heads of 12 lakh families, with 16 lakh more set to benefit. Under Pathashree I, II, and III, over 39,000 km of rural roads have already been built at a cost of ₹10,902 crore, with another 20,000 km underway. BJP’s communal agenda seeks to fracture Bengal along religious and linguistic lines. But as long as our Ma-Mati-Manush Sarkaar stands, no communal poison will be allowed to take root in this soil. I do not practise politics using faith as a weapon. I respect all religions equally. The same forces that once pushed the nation into the abyss of demonetisation are now attempting to disenfranchise citizens through SIR. Speaking Bangla is being criminalised; Bengali-speaking citizens are being harassed and brutalised in BJP-ruled states. They insult Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, slander Raja Ram Mohan Roy, vandalise Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar’s bust, and then lecture us on nationalism? Bengal needs no lessons from those who neither understand its history nor respect its culture. Bengalis have given their blood for this nation before. If required, we will stand again, to protect our land, our language, and our people. Once again, I say, do not be afraid. “May I Help You” camps will continue. Not a single eligible voter’s name will be allowed to be deleted. Standing on the land of Rai Saheb Thakur Panchanan Barma, I reiterate my oath that there will be no NRC, no detention camps, and no persecution in Bengal. I am your sentinel. In moments of danger and injustice, you will always find us standing by you.

A sensational theft has come to light in #Bengaluru’s #Marathahalli area, where gold, diamonds, silver, and cash worth ₹18 crore were stolen from the residence of builder Shivakumar in #Yamaluru. The accused are a couple who had joined the house as domestic workers just 20 days earlier, police said. The robbery took place on January 25, when no family members were present at the house. Shivakumar was on a foreign trip to the Philippines with friends, while his wife, son, and daughter-in-law had gone to a relative’s house. When the family returned, they found the lockers broken and valuables missing, bringing the crime to light. Police identified the accused as Dinesh and Kamala, a couple who had joined the household recently. Kamala worked as a house help, while Dinesh was employed as a security guard. Within a short span of 20 days, they gained the family’s trust by efficiently handling all assigned duties. Before their arrival, another couple, Vikas and Maya, who had worked at the house for nine months, had expressed their intention to leave for their native place. Shivakumar had asked them to arrange replacements before leaving, following which Dinesh and Kamala were hired. According to police, Kamala deliberately took the other house help outside on the pretext of going out. As soon as they left, Dinesh became active and reportedly called five to six accomplices to the house. The gang first switched off the UPS system and then broke open lockers located in bedrooms on the ground floor and first floor. The accused fled with 11.5 kg of gold, diamond jewellery, 5 kg of silver, and ₹11.5 lakh in cash, amounting to a total value of ₹18 crore. Police suspect the involvement of a Nepali gang, indicating that the crime was carried out with careful planning. The #MarathahalliPolice have registered a case and launched an intensive search operation to trace the accused and recover the stolen valuables. Multiple teams have been formed, and CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being examined.

This is what happens when someone makes sweeping claims without looking at the complete evidence. At least do your homework before speaking with such confidence. Since you've raised these issues, let's examine the facts. You claimed that E20 reduces mileage by 15–20%. But your own calculation contradicts that claim. Ethanol contains roughly 33% less energy than petrol. Moving from E10 to E20 translates to an expected difference of about 3.3%, which is consistent with the government's estimates. So where did the 15–20% figure come from? There is no credible evidence supporting it. You also claimed that pre-2023 vehicles are facing a nationwide engine crisis because of E20. If that's true, where is the evidence? The transition to E20 did not happen overnight. It began gradually in 2021 before becoming the standard. More than 20 crore two-wheelers and over 20 lakh cars have been operating on progressively higher ethanol blends for years. If there were a widespread engine failure issue, it should be visible in large-scale service data and independent reporting. Then there's the forex argument. Here, you compared a one-year estimate with a cumulative figure covering multiple years. That is not a like-for-like comparison. The reported savings of approximately ₹1.90 lakh crore in foreign exchange and the replacement of 310 lakh tonnes of crude oil cover the period from 2014–15 to May 2026. Comparing that with a single year's data creates a misleading impression. Finally, you argued that older vehicles are increasing India's petrol consumption because of E20. But that conclusion depends on a mileage loss that isn't supported by the evidence you've cited. Meanwhile, data and statements from manufacturers and industry bodies indicate a different picture. So the real question is simple: Who should people rely on? The engineers, researchers, manufacturers, and testing agencies that have spent years evaluating these vehicles and fuels— Or claims that are not supported by comparable data and verifiable evidence? Before making alarming claims, it's worth ensuring that the facts actually support the conclusion. Arvind Kejriwal should note this.

Caste walls in academia! Dr. Venkatesh Naik, an ST faculty member at MNNIT Prayagraj, has been suspended and is experiencing ongoing caste discrimination. He expressed his pain: "My suspension has been deliberately used as a tool to cut my salary. Certain faculty members, driven by jealousy and personal grudge, planned together to ensure my salary is reduced and withheld. The accounts section is also intentionally not releasing my dues. My livelihood has been targeted only because I raised complaints against wrongdoing. This is not discipline, this is retaliation. My financial security has been attacked through a pre-planned, coordinated move." Dr. Naik has repeatedly alleged that instead of addressing his complaints, the institute has escalated continuously caste based harassment through false charges and continuous withholding of dues, a long pattern documented over the years. At this stage, we urgently demand that the Union Education Minister and the Government of India intervene immediately. A neutral, time-bound investigation must be ordered; all withheld salary, benefits and dues must be released; and strict action must be taken against those responsible for caste-based harassment. Without decisive intervention from the central government, justice for Dr. Naik will remain incomplete and institutional discrimination will continue unchecked. ছিলাম, আছি, থাকব শান্তির সাথে বাঁচব, উন্নয়নের সাথে বাঁচব, সম্প্রীতির সাথে বাঁচব, সবাইকে নিয়ে বাঁচব। It was my honour to address the Ma, Mati, Manush of Murshidabad whose soil carries the memory of the last great battle before India fell to colonial rule. This land has shaped Bengal’s political, cultural, and spiritual fabric, and once stood as the seat of administration for our State. Within our limited resources, we have worked with full sincerity for the comprehensive development of Murshidabad. We have invested ₹900 crore across 189 development projects. At Sagardighi, a 660-MW supercritical power plant, the first of its kind in eastern India, is set to become operational on December 10. Built at a cost of ₹4,567 crore, it will supply uninterrupted power to 16.7 lakh families and create 26,000 jobs. Six anti-erosion projects along the Ganga–Padma stretch in Shamsherganj and Dhuliyan have been undertaken at a cost of ₹69 crore. An additional ₹136 crore has already been spent statewide on preventing riverbank erosion, with a total allocation of ₹200 crore earmarked for this critical work. Murshidabad’s iconic ‘Chhanabora’ has received a GI tag. Instead of acknowledging Bengal’s progress, the Mir Jafars in Delhi, unable to earn people’s trust and incapable of competing with us politically, have left no avenue unexplored to punish our people. Bengal’s rightful dues worth nearly ₹2 lakh crore have been choked off. They have repeatedly undermined the cultural and civilisational icons who define our national consciousness. They are systematically attempting to erase Bengali language and identity. They have even banned ‘Vande Mataram’ on Rajya Sabha premises. Bengali-speaking migrant workers are being harassed, detained, humiliated, and illegally deported; even pregnant women are not spared. Now, in the same authoritarian spirit as demonetisation, CAA-NRC, they have unleashed the SIR purge to manipulate electoral rolls and tilt the scales. More than 40 people have lost their lives under the crushing pressure of this relentless exercise. Today, I met the families of four individuals who died in SIR-induced panic, conveyed my condolences, and assured them that we stand firmly by their side. The families of those who lost their lives due to SIR have been provided ₹2 lakh each, and those who are hospitalised have been given ₹1 lakh each. If they had courage or integrity, they would have conducted SIR two years earlier. Elections are taking place in four States, but SIR is only being conducted where Opposition governments are in power. Why not Assam? Why not Tripura? Are they not border States? Why not Mizoram, Manipur, or Nagaland, where Rohingya infiltration actually occurs? Their selective targeting exposes their political malice. But we will not allow their conspiracy to succeed. We have launched ‘May I Help You’ camps at every booth to ensure that not a single legitimate voter is disenfranchised. Until the last citizen submits his or her enumeration form, I will not submit mine. I stand as their custodian. The ruling party at the Centre survives by manufacturing hatred and division. These ‘Dangebaaz’ want to inject communal venom, splinter society along religious lines and shatter Bengal’s centuries-old syncretic fabric. As long as I am here, I will never allow that. I respect every faith, every caste, every creed, every class. We are a State that honours every language. But if anyone dares insult the language in which we say “Ma”, if anyone threatens the dignity of my ‘Manush’, if anyone tries to uproot the “Mati” from beneath their feet, then I shall ensure that they are democratically reduced to dust. To the BJP, I say this clearly and without hesitation, "Jo Bengal se takrayega, choor-choor ho jaayega.”
