CNET after testing Tesla FSD V14: I Drove Over 100 Miles With Tesla's Latest Full Self-Driving and Never Touched the Wheel. "Four days, 4 hours and 100 miles through San Francisco. I'm now fully convinced Tesla's FSD system is the future of driving. It drove me through it all.... Tight curbside streets, janky parking garages, rain-slicked freeways, and even the crooked mess of Lombard Street -- both in dry and wet weather -- all without a hiccup. It handled it better than some people I saw reversing down driveways. I never felt the need to take over. Parking was the cherry on top. It would pull into or reverse into spaces, even in tight garages. Occasionally, I'd pick the exact space I wanted, but most of the time, I just let it do its thing. And it did it well. I've used Autopilot plenty, in the UK where FSD isn't a thing. But FSD is miles ahead. I'd be lying if I said it didn't feel slightly magical. I've never driven in San Francisco before. I didn't know the streets. But the car did. And I trusted it. That's the key takeaway here: I trusted the system. At no point did I clench, panic, or even hesitate. @Tesla I drove home 2000 miles from Colorado to Connecticut with 14.2.1 and didn’t need to touch the wheel or pedals. Toll booths, exits, lane dodging. The only thing I did was adjust if I wanted to go “Mad Max”, “Hurry”, “Standard”, “Chill” or “Sloth”

Someone needs to let the bobble heads on CNBC use Tesla’s FSD, they don’t even realize it has been solved. Or maybe they know the significance but because it is Elon they do not want to highlight the positive news. My guess it would be the latter😂, sad to point out the obvious 🤷🏻

@Tesla Wow! That’s remarkable. I have a 2016 model X P100D. Would love it if Tesla updated my FSD software/hardware to perform that well. It does pretty well, but I don’t know that it could do 100 miles thru SF without a hiccup.

Incredible progress on FSD v14! The CNET tester going 100+ miles without touching the wheel in tough SF conditions is mind-blowing. It really feels like magic – smooth, natural, and far beyond expectations. Can't wait to try the latest v14.2.1 updates myself. Tesla is crushing it!

Tesla solved autonomy. I just had FSD v14.2.2.5 drive me on a 46 minute ride (40 miles) from Jagalchi in Daly City to McDonald's in San Jose. It took me from parking lot to parking lot. I never touched the steering wheel. I never touched the pedals. And I never disengaged.

I spent over 4 hours driving today on Tesla FSD, and even though I’ve had so much experience with it, I’m constantly amazed by it. People will never understand how transformative it is until they experience it firsthand. It removes all anxiety and road rage. My car drove me over 115 miles today. It parked, navigated downtown with pedestrians and traffic everywhere, then drove me home without me ever touching the steering wheel or pedals, all with just a push of a button. This is the future. Those who experience FSD daily understand. You can never live without it. Your whole perception of what a car is will change completely. I grew up loving all types of cars and still do. But FSD has completely rewired my brain. This is what I enjoy now, it gives me freedom and allows me to relax because I know it’s safer than I could ever be. Only Tesla offers this experience.

FSD V14.1.7 | Near Accident This is without a doubt the closest I have come to getting into an accident in a long time. I think had I not taken over and slammed on the brakes we would not have slowed down in time. You can see that FSD does an incredible job reacting to the car (even before I noticed it) and was slowing down, but it was not slowing down enough to stop in time. As soon as I saw the car swerving to the right I worried she was going to bounce back into my lane so that is when I decided to go full on the brakes to stop the car. You can see prior to me taking over we were full regen braking (which is FSD reacting well) but it wasn't using any real brakes at all, and ABS was not active until I took over. Let me know what you all think in the comments. I still think FSD is incredible - the reality is if you watch the video the car saw and reacted to the situation before I did, it just didn't brake as agressively as it needed to in this situation. FSD + an attentive driver is without a doubt in my mind still safer than a normal human driver who is not using FSD.

FSD did not stop at the intersection. I drove 180 miles r/t to do this test and FSD was flawless the entire trip except for this intersection. I blame the speed limit, the bend in the road, the foliage, and the horrible design of this intersection. I still love FSD and wouldn’t have a car without it.

Here’s my first drive on Tesla FSD V14.2. For the first time on V14, I had zero hesitation or braking issues all day, and no interventions. From a driving perspective, and after 85 miles on and off-camera on V14.2 today, it now feels as comfortable, if not more so, than V13 did, but with all the capabilities of V14. What’s new in FSD V14.2: • Self-Driving stats section that tells you exactly how many Self-Driving miles you’ve driven and the percentage of FSD miles • You can now select speed profiles and parking preferences while in park • Upgraded the neural network vision encoder, leveraging higher resolution features to further improve scenarios like handling emergency vehicles, obstacles on the road, and human gestures • Big improvement (in my experience) to overall everyday driving comfortability • Slightly less strict attention monitoring at times In my opinion, V14.2 is good enough to be sent to every AI4 owner where FSD is legal, and for Tesla to encourage non-FSD owners/subscribers to try it. FSD did have a couple weird navigation decisions it made in my video, but that’s my only complaint. Overall, great version of FSD. 4K YouTube version of my video in thread below:

FSD V14.2.2.4 Cutting Through a Gas Station Parking Lot? I don't think I've ever seen FSD drive like this before, but on my drive this morning it happened twice in a row. Rather than proceed to the stop light, it cut into a gas station and drove through the parking lot, then did the same at the next intersection. Afterward, it pulled into a parking lot with "Do Not Enter" signs at the entrance and parked in a stall. The real issue is that I was navigating to a Tesla Supercharger nowhere near that parking lot.

I spent a few hours using Tesla FSD V14.3.5 on the Cybertruck yesterday. I said this before, but I honestly think the Cybertruck is the best vessel for FSD. The way it handles tight spaces and sharp turns is impressive. What makes the Cybertruck the best (imo) is the way it can just eat up the road under it. Potholes, rough roads, whatever, it doesn’t matter. Cybertruck glides over everything. That combined with amazing car control is why I think it’s the best, and most comfortable. I just can’t get over how amazing FSD is these days. For the younger generation, self-driving will become the norm. For us, I don’t think it will ever get old.

I keep hearing some people claim Robotaxi cannot drive in heavy rain ... well, here is a video I took of it doing just that and the rain was coming down in sheets ... listen to the rain hitting the car! Oh, after I finished my Robotaxi rides for the day, I then got into my Tesla AI FSD equipped 2025 Model 3 & it drove me about 80 miles back to San Antonio in this kind of rain ... zero disconnects or interventions the entire way home. I think it does pretty well!

Forget UPL, it's the Devin's simple right hand turn that FSD needs to master first. I am blown away that software as good as FSD can make mistakes as simple but devastating as this. This is the second time in less than two weeks that FSD has tried to pull infront of a vehicle on a VERY SIMPLE right hand turn. The car drove pretty much flawlessly all day today (3~ hours of driving) but it ends the day with a move like this and it just takes all the confidence I have with FSD away in a simple move. I understand that the version of FSD we have today is not what will be used in Austin in June, but the fact that FSD is making decisions like this and 'full autonomy' is less than 3 months away - it's a bit concerning to me. I would feel a bit better if a near flawless version of FSD existed 'in the wild' for several months before Austin happens, but that's just me. Tesla Model 3 HW4 FSD 13.2.8 Tesla AI Ashok Elluswamy

I've been using FSD in my Tesla Model X for nearly a year. Here's the Good, the Bad and the Ugly on Tesla's FSD... The Good: - FSD is bar far, the most advanced driving technology I've ever experienced in any vehicle. - I use it every day, on every drive. Why? Because it reduces my driving work substantially. It keeps the car centered in the lane, keeps an appropriate following distance, stops for red lights and stop signs, turns where I need to turn and handles 99% of my driving tasks. - I think driving with FSD is FAR safer than driving without it because it reduces the "dumb" mistakes that drivers make that cause accidents. Mistakes like being distracted and missing the fact that the light is turning red or that the car in front of you just hit the breaks, or swerving out of your lane, or forgetting an exit or a turn and trying to make a heroic move to stay on course. All of these things are handled by FSD with grace and it likely is saving countless accidents. - Long drives and road trips are a pleasure with FSD because you are not fatigued with the many thousands of micro driving tasks, such as keeping the car centered in the lane or even worrying about where you're going. The car does all of that for you (and Navigate on Autopilot also does 95% of this for road trips). - When I use FSD, I have near-0 road rage, never speed up rapidly for no good reason and I am generally a more relaxed driver. The Bad: - Sometimes FSD has Schizophrenia, sees things that aren't there, slows for no reason, is indecisive on whether to go or stop which causes it to do extreme movements of the steering wheel, breaks and accelerator. In most of these circumstances, it's not unsafe, but as the driver sitting in the driver's seat, it is quite embarrassing, especially if you have passengers in the vehicle. - There are times when FSD makes a truly unsafe mistake, misses a red light (super rare) and tries to go when it should clearly stop, or slams on the break because it thinks a car might cross paths when the car was clearly not going to. In all these instances, it's super easy to take over and correct FSD's mistake. I don't even think twice about it...I quickly take over, correct the mistake, and put it back on FSD. The Ugly: - FSD is nearly useless in parking lots. It is surprisingly bad, especially since Elon Musk introduced the "Summon" feature long before FSD was released publicly. He said "just like humans, the AI also needs to learn driving by starting in the parking lot." 5 Years later, Summon still sucks and FSD has no idea how to drive in a parking lot. - Despite the many praises that a specific release often gets on Twitter, my personal experience has been that a new release could actually be worse than the previous version. For example, when my FSD upgraded from 10.69 to 11.3, it lost its ability to get in & out of HOV lanes on the freeway (I live in Scottsdale AZ). This simple loss of functionality (which returned with 11.4) caused numerous missed exits and route delays due to my over-reliance on FSD. - FSD makes some incredibly bad choices that are unexplainable, like certain lane changes, or last-second preparation to try and make a turn from 3 lanes away. These mistakes get better and worse with each release...it's a mixed bag as to what you're going to get with an update. - Your car's FSD never ever learns or improves by user input (not without an update). So it will make the exact same mistake in the exact same location, every, single, time. That can be super annoying. Conclusion: Despite the shortcomings, FSD is a technology marvel that I prefer not to live without. I don't see myself having a primary car that doesn't have Tesla-level FSD capabilities anytime in the future. Even the basic Autopilot features of Tesla are far superior to any other vehicle I've experienced. And despite what Elon says, the rate of improvement that I have experienced in the past year will not put it on a trajectory to be ready without a backup driver anytime in the next year or two. But with a backup driver, FSD is incredible, makes driving safer and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

The Good: - FSD is bar far, the most advanced driving technology I've ever experienced in any vehicle. - I use it every day, on every drive. Why? Because it reduces my driving work substantially. It keeps the car centered in the lane, keeps an appropriate following distance, stops for red lights and stop signs, turns where I need to turn and handles 99% of my driving tasks. - I think driving with FSD is FAR safer than driving without it because it reduces the "dumb" mistakes that drivers make that cause accidents. Mistakes like being distracted and missing the fact that the light is turning red or that the car in front of you just hit the breaks, or swerving out of your lane, or forgetting an exit or a turn and trying to make a heroic move to stay on course. All of these things are handled by FSD with grace and it likely is saving countless accidents. - Long drives and road trips are a pleasure with FSD because you are not fatigued with the many thousands of micro driving tasks, such as keeping the car centered in the lane or even worrying about where you're going. The car does all of that for you (and Navigate on Autopilot also does 95% of this for road trips). - When I use FSD, I have near-0 road rage, never speed up rapidly for no good reason and I am generally a more relaxed driver. The Bad: - Sometimes FSD has Schizophrenia, sees things that aren't there, slows for no reason, is indecisive on whether to go or stop which causes it to do extreme movements of the steering wheel, breaks and accelerator. In most of these circumstances, it's not unsafe, but as the driver sitting in the driver's seat, it is quite embarrassing, especially if you have passengers in the vehicle. - There are times when FSD makes a truly unsafe mistake, misses a red light (super rare) and tries to go when it should clearly stop, or slams on the break because it thinks a car might cross paths when the car was clearly not going to. In all these instances, it's super easy to take over and correct FSD's mistake. I don't even think twice about it...I quickly take over, correct the mistake, and put it back on FSD. The Ugly: - FSD is nearly useless in parking lots. It is surprisingly bad, especially since Elon Musk introduced the "Summon" feature long before FSD was released publicly. He said "just like humans, the AI also needs to learn driving by starting in the parking lot." 5 Years later, Summon still sucks and FSD has no idea how to drive in a parking lot. - Despite the many praises that a specific release often gets on Twitter, my personal experience has been that a new release could actually be worse than the previous version. For example, when my FSD upgraded from 10.69 to 11.3, it lost its ability to get in & out of HOV lanes on the freeway (I live in Scottsdale AZ). This simple loss of functionality (which returned with 11.4) caused numerous missed exits and route delays due to my over-reliance on FSD. - FSD makes some incredibly bad choices that are unexplainable, like certain lane changes, or last-second preparation to try and make a turn from 3 lanes away. These mistakes get better and worse with each release...it's a mixed bag as to what you're going to get with an update. - Your car's FSD never ever learns or improves by user input (not without an update). So it will make the exact same mistake in the exact same location, every, single, time. That can be super annoying. Conclusion: Despite the shortcomings, FSD is a technology marvel that I prefer not to live without. I don't see myself having a primary car that doesn't have Tesla-level FSD capabilities anytime in the future. Even the basic Autopilot features of Tesla are far superior to any other vehicle I've experienced. And despite what Elon says, the rate of improvement that I have experienced in the past year will not put it on a trajectory to be ready without a backup driver anytime in the next year or two. But with a backup driver, FSD is incredible, makes driving safer and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

I just got back from over 3 hours of driving to and around Boston using Tesla FSD V14.1.3. No interventions. It was great. V14 is ready to be released wide in my opinion. It feels noticeably smoother and more comfortable in everyday driving compared to 14.1.2. That's especially impressive since I tested 14.1.3 in Boston at night, while V14.1.2 was only tested in southern New Hampshire (less challenging). I only noticed one minor hesitation at a stoplight and one issue during a curbside drop-off at the start of this video, where it circled the block once before pulling over in the correct area, but both were not a big deal. I had no safety issues tonight. There was also an interesting moment in the video where I accidentally set the curbside drop-off area in a dead end street. FSD took a little while figuring out how to back out, but it eventually did it without my help. If you'd like to watch the 4K version of this video on YouTube, I've linked that in the thread below.

I hesitate posting this for a bunch of reasons, but I think it's good to just be transparent about everything. I love to highlight all of the incredible things that FSD does, but I also think it's good to talk about any issues that it has currently. In my opinion the E2E on the highway needs some major changes. This clip was from my drive yesterday, and it is without a doubt the most dangerous situation that FSD has put me in. Yes, I am aware that it is FSD Supervised - everything that happens in the car is ultimately my responsbility. I just was wanting to see what the car would do, and I was hoping that it would make a better decision to be honest. Let me know what you think.

FSD V14.1.4 | 37 Minute Drive with the push of a button Everyday that I am out on the road I drive past all the other cars and I wonder how many of them realize what Tesla has accomplished already with FSD. Given that so many Tesla owners don't even know about FSD I have to assume the majority of other people on the road also do not know. I'm not sure what the answer is, but somehow the public needs to be made aware of what's happening here - at this point it's undeniably good and more people need to try it out and experience it for themselves. Who all is enjoying V14 so far?
