Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza - with expectations that there will be an immediate ceasefire, followed by the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Some 1,200 people were killed in a Hamas-led attack on October 7 2023, with 251 taken hostage. Israel believes that around 20 of the hostages are still alive. And since the outbreak of war, more than 67,000 people have been killed in Gaza and nearly 170,000 wounded, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

Earlier live on air, I spoke about what a day of real joy this is, for Israeli families whose loved ones are finally being returned from two years of horrific Hamas captivity, and for civilians in Gaza, who have finally had a reprieve from two years of brutal, deadly war. I noted that for the hostages who are finally home, it will take a long time for them to recover mentally and physically. But I regret also saying that they may have been treated better than many Gazans because Hamas used these hostages as pawns and bargaining chips. It was insensitive and wrong. From speaking to many former hostages and their families, like everyone I've been horrified at what Hamas has subjected them to over two long years. They've told me their stories of barely being able to breathe in the tunnels, not being allowed to cry, being starved and made to dig their own graves – and of course today, some of the hostages are coming back in body bags.

Hamas leadership has been living lavishly in Qatar while the people that they claim to represent in Gaza are suffering. They’ve been directing a war from the comfort of their five-star hotels for almost two years, refusing to release the 48 hostages that are still being held in Gaza. Today, Israeli officials announced that they took a targeted action against these Hamas leaders who have been terrorizing the region for years. This war in Gaza is brutal. It has to end. Palestinians are suffering, Israelis are suffering. The entire region is suffering. The people of Gaza, the Arab League, the US and Israel are all saying the same thing. Hamas must be removed from power. Inside Gaza, people are risking their lives to protest Hamas, and they’re being silenced, beaten, even killed on the streets. They know that Hamas is the reason Gaza is in ruin. They know that Hamas is the one who started the war, and Hamas is the reason that it hasn’t ended yet. And this has been Hamas’s plan all along, force Israel into a war it never wanted to fight, but has to win. Hamas spent years preparing the October 7th attack. They knew exactly what an urban war in a densely populated area would look like. They all went into hiding and left their people out to suffer. And these devastating consequences for the people of Gaza? That was a part of their strategy, to delegitimize Israel’s standing in the eyes of the world. They knew what they were doing, and Israel could not and still cannot allow these jihadists to live on its borders. No other nation would allow that. This is the linchpin of the entire conflict right now. Once Hamas is gone, the war ends, the suffering ends, and Gaza can finally rebuild. Hamas is using the bodies of hostages in order to buy time and tighten their control over Gaza. Meanwhile, they’re slaughtering their own people. This is not just horrific and sadistic, this is a blatant violation of the ceasefire deal. Since October 10th when the entire Middle East signed off on President Trump’s peace plan, Hamas has done what Hamas always does, which is break its word. They delayed the release of hostages, they fired RPGs at Israeli soldiers, and they executed Palestinians in Gaza that they deemed traitors. While hostage families wait anxiously, Hamas plays games. They claim not to know where the remaining hostages are, but we’ve seen the evidence. This week, drone footage exposed Hamas staging a fake discovery of a hostage body, burying it, then pretending to find it for the Red Cross. This is deliberate. It’s part of their plan. Now here’s the thing. Phase 1 of the deal calls for the release of all 48 hostages, 20 alive and 28 dead. Phase 2 of Trump’s peace plan calls for Hamas to be disarmed and removed from power. Hamas does not want to get to phase two, and now they’re trying to stall, buying time and trickling back hostages. They’re trying to regain control over Gaza, slaughtering their own people to get there and terrorizing Israelis who are waiting for their loved ones. This is a violation of the deal. We can’t go back to square one. President Trump knows this. Our neighbors, our entire region knows this, and Israel knows this too. If Hamas keeps violating the ceasefire, Israel will once again be forced to fight this war that she didn’t want, didn’t start, but has to win. The international pressure must be put on Hamas to keep the ceasefire deal, release all the hostages, and move to phase two so we can finally start working towards peace in the Middle East.

There’s a new claim that “essentially, all that happened was Trump got tired, took control and forced it on Netanyahu, and this is basically the same deal that could have been reached a year earlier,” with the disturbing implication, that’s horrible to say, that IDF soldiers died in vain for a cause that had already been achieved. So, let’s revisit the plans that were laid out by both the current and former American administrations to see if they match up. For example, the Biden plan from June 1, 2024, which was met with considerable enthusiasm, and was even later acknowledged as Netanyahu’s plan. I want to highlight the difference. In the first phase, the IDF should have already pulled back to roughly its current position, and then it was just about releasing humanitarian hostages. As if not all of them are “humanitarian.” Then it transitioned to discussing the release of living hostages. In this phase, the IDF would withdraw from all of Gaza, until the last centimetre, while all the dead hostages remain in Gaza. It’s as different as day and night. Here, everyone is returning, including the dead, and the IDF is still in half of Gaza. This isn’t just about some desire to maintain an occupation or garrison force, but rather to ensure that Hamas disarms — something that didn’t happen in the Biden proposal. So now let’s move on to the Witkoff plan, much closer to us, much better for Israel, but still different. There was talk of releasing half of the dead hostages, but then a temporary ceasefire for two months of negotiations to end the war, and then the IDF would withdraw from more places than it is now, and there would be a guarantee that the war would not be renewed. Once again, we see that there was no connection between the IDF remaining on the ground and the promise that Hamas would disarm, especially while some of the hostages are still there. The greatness of this outline is this issue. I also want to say something general about the matter of responsibility. As ridiculous as it was on October 7 and afterwards to hear from Netanyahu’s supporters that the one who is to blame is the IDF chief of staff, the Shin Bet chief, the attorney general and the Military Advocate General, and that Netanyahu has no part in it — it’s as ridiculous as it is that now they’re saying, “Thank you Trump and thank you Nitzan Alon, and thank you to all of them and to the Qatari prime minister, and Netanyahu and Ron Dermer have nothing to do with it at all.” Indeed, Netanyahu had a very large part in the failure of October 7, and he also has a very large part together with Dermer in this deal. By the way, how does that connect to what Kushner said tonight in Egypt? He said that both the prime minister and Dermer made very big compromises and took risks to see the end of the war. I would like to make a suggestion. Once upon a time, when there was only one channel and people didn’t like the commentators, they said, “Watch the game without the commentary.” I say, let’s watch Trump and Netanyahu’s move without the commentary, because there are a lot of conversations, and this and that, and slander, and sometimes even quotes, but in practice there has never been a president and a prime minister who acted like this, and the results are evident from Iran, through the Golan Heights, through the embassy and now Gaza.

What you call a ceasefire is completely different from what they call a ceasefire! The video attached is from #Gaza, today, a few hours after the ceasefire deal has taken effect. The Gazans are cheering #Hamas parades with a chant vowing to kill the Jews. They say: "Khaibar, Khaibar, O' Jews, Mohammad's Army will return [to kill you]." The people of Gaza were mercilessly used as human shields by the Hamas militants. Yet, they are now celebrating an illusionary victory with Hamas and are cursing Israel! This is hard for me to digest. Hamas is celebrating the #hostagedeal as a victory. Indeed, such a deal is a lifeline thrown to them. What you call a ceasefire is completely different from what they call a ceasefire! The video attached is from #Gaza, today, a few hours after the ceasefire deal has taken effect. The Gazans are cheering #Hamas parades with a chant vowing to kill the Jews. They say: "Khaibar, Khaibar, O' Jews, Mohammad's Army will return [to kill you]." The people of Gaza were mercilessly used as human shields by the Hamas militants. Yet, they are now celebrating an illusionary victory with Hamas and are cursing Israel! This is hard for me to digest. Hamas is celebrating the #hostagedeal as a victory. Indeed, such a deal is a lifeline thrown to them. I can honestly say that yesterday was one of my HARDEST days reporting throughout this whole war. Three Israeli hostages were released today after more than 16 months in Hamas captivity. And what we saw today was a reminder of some of the darkest times in human history. Eli Sharabi, Ohad Ben Ami, and Or Levy were emaciated, starved, and traumatized Jewish civilians being paraded before the world by a Hamas death cult. And for Jews, this triggered the epigenetic trauma that we carry from generation to generation. Hostage taking is a war crime. It’s a crime against humanity. And now we also saw the grotesque spectacle of gaunt and terrified hostages being forced to thank their terrorist captures who have been systematically starving them. Humanitarian aid has flooded into Gaza by Israel. Over 1.3 million tons of aid has gone in during the war. More than 4,000 trucks of aid a week since the ceasefire. This was a decision to starve them. This was starvation as method of torture. There are 76 other hostages still held in Gaza and we have no illusions about the brutality and barbarism of how they’re being treated. We saw it with our own eyes. Hamas was supposed to release a list of which hostages are alive, which ones are dead. They did not. We need to know that and we need proof that they’re receiving food, medical treatment and adequate conditions. That’s what the Red Cross needs to be demanding. Not taking part in Hamas’ theatrics, disgusting theatrics that have become worse and worse every week until this despicable low. Enough with the physical torture of innocent hostages and enough with the psychological torture of their families. If you want Palestinians to live in freedom, dignity and in peace, you don’t want Hamas from the river to the sea. And when you chant that, you are betraying the same people that you claim you want to help. By now it’s becoming very clear that we must indeed free Palestine. Free Palestine from jihadism.
