This makes me want to hang with my dad…. Everything he ever did, and my favorite was sitting with me and playing this game…

yep. It was also the first game I cracked and removed copy protection from - it encrypted a particular file if memory serves me correct. I also cracked Red Alert 2 which used a laughable anti-crack scheme called SafeDisk(?) I never sold any cracks - just cracked it for myself and a few others (not that makes it anymore less illegal)

You can still play this today. It is called OpenRA, also has a native Linux version and it's actually pretty amazing 💁🏻‍♀️

It was all about the Pentiums back then. Who remembers SNES 9x running 2 year old console games faster than the real thing? A P75 is just fast enough to play a mp3 at cd quality without skipping.

Loved playing command and conquer. Reminded me of Dune on the commodore Amiga.

Last night I played 4 hours of the original Command & Conquer Red Alert with a friend. I absolutely loved this game. One of the first PC games I truly obsessed over. Released in 1996. Still an incredible game. DId you play it?

Command & Conquer: Red Alert, running natively on iPad and iOS. Not an emulator. RAtouch is built on TheAssemblyArmada’s Vanilla Conquer, a project that preserves Red Alert’s original simulation. Tap selects and orders. One-finger drag box-selects. Two fingers move the map. Hold brings back the original right-click. Pinch zooms the presentation. The command deck gives you control groups and the commands that were stuck behind a keyboard. I used Codex 5.6 Sol to build the iPad layer. Open sourcing it all below.

It´s a #Pentium! Let´s decap those CPUs in order to have a clear view on the silicon die. As usual, I use my heatgun at 650°C to quickly remove the back lid. Just took minutes for this 75MHz P54C version...(4/14)

There was a time when game menus simply oozed epicness. They were like an appetizer for the glory to come. Command & Conquer: Generals (2003) Remember the feeling when you saw this for the first time?

The original Command & Conquer (1995) still holds the highest approval rating on Metacritic (94 out of 100) among all RTS games of the 90s. Greatness is timeless. Do you agree?
